What cab and speaker would you recommend for an RM 50 head?

It could be 2x12 or 4x12. Music to be played would be 80's hair metal, hard rock and shred type music (Vai, Moore, etc).

I prefer a 2x12 simply out of convenience (and for my back's sake!). Unfortunately, you have to experiment with speaker/cabinet combinations to get the right combination that suits your needs (which can get expensive and time consuming).

I did try a few combinations in my Avatar 2x12, and came up with the WGS ET-65 and WGS Retro-30 combination, which has worked well for me so far. I liked the Retro-30 over the Vet-30 that WGS recommends to be paired with the ET-65, as the Vet-30 seemed to be missing something in the higher frequencies to my ears.

The speakers I ran in that same cabinet before the WGS were Celestion G12T100's (Hot 100's). I know - they're considered inferior, bargain basement speakers to some, but I will say that if you're on a tight budget these are an awesome compromise! I still have mine, only they're in another cabinet now - no need to get rid of them (me like!). Avatar blows these out from time to time (at one point you could get a quad for $125!), so check their website often if you're looking for a good bang for your buck.

I use Scumback M75's in my 2X12 currently. I have used ET65's and loved them. V30's did not work so well for my tastes. I am playing lots of hair metal/rock FWIW.

I have a Bugera 2x12 that is perfect. It has good tone and only weighs 48lbs, which is why I bought it.
They go for around $200 new
I am trying to sell mine, but if I can sell other gear first, I'll definitely keep it as an ext cab.
4 or 16 ohms mono, dual 8 ohms stereo
It handled everything the Peavey 3120 could throw at it, very tight and responsive. I am a metalhead at heart

you can't really go wrong with a Port City 2X12 cab. They're the BMWs of cabinets:

I'm liking the WGS ET-65 the best with my RM50 (Clean/SL+/UltraXL) set-up. I've mixed it with a WGS Veteran 30 or Mesa Back Shadow C90 at times, but find I prefer the ET-65 on it's own.

i really like my avatar set up with the Warehouse guitar speakers version of the Vintage 30's..I'm a little different then most Randall players as i play blues and classic rock and the majority of my modules are vintage voiced modules...

IO have a friend who is a metal player and his RM50 with the Brahma,Treadplate and clean module sound fantastic with a old crate 4x12 cab with Celestion G12's ..

So it doesn't take big bucks to have a great tone..

OK, gotta chime in here...Randall 412NXT....It sounds AWESOME and weighs about the same as a standard 2x12...The Celestion Neodymiums inside sound incredible and their magnets are WAY lighter than a V30 or the like..Zero compromise in tone, in fact I prefer it live...Maybe that's just my back talking but this cab is the ONLY cab with Celestions voiced for MTS- so that's gotta say something...

When I couple that cab with my RM100, it's bliss...I would imagine it would treat your 50 the same way...

They aren't cheap but I've seen them comparably priced....I got a new one from Sweetwater for a tad more than they were selling the V30 loaded cabs for...If you want big sound a lightweight- the neos are your best choice....The 412NXT is well built, lightweight, sound great and have mic eliminators to boot in case you have a lazy sound man... :D

Ditto on the G-Flex 2x12.
Sounds huge with the RM50, perfect match.
Boogie recto 2x12 is also killer.
Or go big and use a 4x12 of either!
I originally got a Randal 2x12 thinkind it would be a good match,
but it sounded terrible.
Avatar and Crate? not so good either :(

I use an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 with Hellatone Vintage 30's from avatarspeakers.com . I absolutely love it. I also have a Blackstar HT-212 that i put the same hellatones in ... sounds real good but not quite as good as the Egnater cabinet. my 2 cents.

I have to say that for the money, this cab is excellent.
The speakers have to be V30 clones because they sound frighteningly similar to the V30s in my 94 Tremoverb combo. Not quite as crunchy but tonally they are spot on.
They have handled all my 100+ watt heads without complaint also.
