I've got modern and vintage high and mid gain tones. What I don't have is a good clean module, and I need one. I'd like the tone to be a cross between an AD30 clean, U2 clean and Mesa MarkV clean. I want a module that will really make me feel the power section The best cleans I've goten are from an Orange Rockerverb and a MKV and I want to combine the two. I'm considering the JF SC,Voxless, Salvo AD30, TwinFace, Loneclean. Can anyone give me some feedback if they will work for me? What's better? Can you feel the power section?

IMO, you're talking about two modules: An AC30 based module and a Fender based module.

AC30 amps feature four EL84's and have a very unique tone. The Edge used AC30's early on for his "chimy" sound, as have many others. A higher gain (although in reality, more of a mid-gain sound) can be attained by an AC30 but the amp has to be full out dimed in the power section. Even though it's only rated at 30 watts, 30 watts is only about 10% quieter than a 50 watt amp, so it's quite loud when cranked, although it "breathes" well at a high volume.

The Mesa Mark amps are originally based on Fender designs, so you'll probably want to look into the LoneClean, SuperClean and any other "clean" Fender based module. But choice of guitar and pickups are equally as important, as you're not going to get Larry Carlton's Mark I tone with a Charvel or Schector. A semi-hollow body 335 type guitar is more than half the equation.

Good luck!

And what of an Orange clean?

The Orange Rockerverb, while similar to a Marshall, has a more pronounced midrange. It's "possible" that a Marshall JMP type module with a low gain setting could achieve the sound you're wanting.

Can you share a specific example of the clean tone you're wanting to achieve?

10 years gone by Led Zep is a great tone. Other than that I'm into almost acoustic/ police stuff.

I'm curious about the salvo hwatt and Buddy.

Tele and a Fender Silverface. That's as easy as plug and play. Nothing special.

Andy Summers? Tele, MXR Dynacomp, Roland Jazz Chorus.

No idea what he's using live or now.

I think those Charvels may be part of the problem if your chasing the tones referenced above.......just a thought.

Besides My EBMM Axis, all my regular guitars have single coils in the neck and middle positions. I Should be able to get that smooth chime I seek. No?

The "chime" you speak of comes from a single coil bridge pickup or the combination of the bridge and middle pickup.

For starters, you'll need something like this:

You may need to replace the bridge and pickups and you may not. But an ash body Tele with a maple fingerboard will certainly provide the "chime" you're seeking.

I was just going to say the same thing....this is tele or strat with a single coil bridge pickup territory.....

Ya know, I've been debating about getting one of the Line6 Tyler Variax guitars. Maybe that will help me out

My experience is that if you're going for a specific tone, you need to use the instrument that the artist used to get even close. As I mentioned in another thread, that's why I have so many guitars and basses.

I have a friend that's a talented bass player that's played a thousand shows in Vegas. He's a GREAT player and uses Musicman Stingray's and Sterling's live and loves them. Yet when he records for various artists, he's always unhappy with his tone. I've been telling him for more than a decade that if he wants the tone he's seeking, he needs to purchase a great sounding Fender Precision.

He resisted forever until finally, just a few months ago, he bought one. BAM! There was the tone he was seeking. Problem solved.

The bottom line is that if you want to sound like you're playing through a Tele and Fender, then play through a Tele and a Fender. Don't play through a Variax and a POD in an attempt to sound like you're playing through a Tele and a Fender.

+1 .. has anyone ever really liked the "strat" tones they get from splitting humbuckers in their Les Pauls or other mahogany guitars? If I want strat tones I'll play a strat with single coils or stacked singles that i feel get me closest to the tone. I never felt right playing Yngwie licks on a Les Paul or Flying v.

So I'll need a tele. I'l probable get an SX, Xaviere, Yamaha. What module do I pair with it?

No offense but why wouldn't you buy an actual Fender Tele like the model I linked earlier in the thread?

$499 before their 15% off coupon code gets you an real Fender for about $425.00.

I just popped some Dimarzio Dominions in my Jackson Fusion Plus. It comes with a 5 way megaswitch with splits for inside coils & outside coils at positions 2 & 4 as standard from Jackson. The Dominions sound much nicer in the Fusion's swamp ash than the Jackson J-50/J-80 set that came with it, and the split coil sounds are waaay better.

But if I want that sound, I always grab my Strat.

As for YingYang licks - mine are generally so slow they're unrecognisable as Yngwie anyway :D
