So I'm thinking of getting started with a modded Marshall module and I think the clips of both the Jaded Faith 59 RR and the Randal Lynch The Judge mod sound Great .

I own a Friedman Modded Marshall and am looking forward to comparing these modules to that amp and using the Marshall power section to see how close I can get.

Has anyone played both modules side be side ? What are your thoughts ?

Thanks :D

Also, this is my first post and I am very excited to join the community here as it seems like a really great place for MTS information and just a overall cool vibe going on. I am a member at Rig Talk and have been there since 08 .
Glad to have found this place :D

I actually own both of these modules right now, but haven't had time to play the Judge yet, which I recently acquired in a trade. The 1959RR is an incredible module, though, and I think you really can't go wrong with that one. My recommendation is try them all out (that's what I'm doing hehe), and see which one floats your boat, and sell/trade the others off to see if they float someone else's boat ;)

Thanks !

I plan on getting several from Jaded Faith and some from Salvation to start. Just trying to see what to get first before I place an order with both .

This should be fun :D

got both - love both for what they do

others have posted that they are similiar in tone

IMO their at two entirely different ends of the "Marshall" spectrum

the JF59 is what a Marshall should sound like- period !!

the Judge is "all about the mids" - super easy to play
hair metal modded marshall tone - pretty much a
"one trick pony" IMHO - but it does that trick exceedingly
well !

1959RR by a longshot- you're going to love those toggles and the tone is killer!

Are the toggles footswitchable? He He!!! Sorry!

The Salvation Mash-All+ is the standard by which all Marshall mods are measured. Just sayin' :D

if your comparing a "friedman" amp to JF & Salvation mods then why not start with a BE or HBE ?

Theres a BE in the classifieds righy now

I also have both a HBE & BE/C45/Sat

My current Rm4 line up consists of JF59RR,Stock SL+, Voodoo Recto
and HBE (I'm having way too much fun with this one !)

Theres very little "crossover" in tones - each can do things the others
can't

for less than half the $$ for a new Marshall JVM - I have a stable full of killer "authentic" modded marshall tones

So would it make sense to have all three ???

Of course it would. I'm the odd man out on the Judge module. I don't find it to my taste. I love my JF modded Mr. Scary though, to me that one screams Lynch. I had the first 59RR and sold it, but I have the newest version on order now. The Mash-All+ is awesome as well.

ditto

with a little outboard EQing both the Judge and Scary get really close
to Lynch - so close its "scary"

Daryl clearly has not owned the 59RR :p Just messin with ya Daryl.
I think Matt has said the 59RR & Mashall are slightly different in tone, so getting both would not be a waste.

For the coin your spending on the Judge & RR59, I suggest the 59RR. Compared side by side the Judge is flat sounding and as stated it is a one trick pony. It doesn't do cleans very well & is a midgainer to highgainer (with a screamer/boost). I wish the Mode switch did as much as either the JMP/JCM or Vintage/Modern switch do on the 59RR. The 59RR can go from clean to high gain & oozes modded Marshall tone.
I say 59, you say RR, 59... RR, 59... RR, 59... RR (and the chant continues)

AWW man, Why you gotta bust my balls? I was correct though. The Salvo is the standard. I wasn't trying to say anything negative towards the 59RR or the Judge. Nor was I endorsing or condemning either one. THis stuff is like Pokemon for musicians!! Gotta collect em' all!!

59... RR, 59... RR... sorry, I got caught up in the moment.

You are correct the Mashall has been the standard for Marshall MTS mods. I should get one just so I can compare the 2 Side by side. 8)

Yes they are. After seeing Figs video for the OD special I want that now as well. At some point I could see having the refrigerator sized rack to house all of the RM4s needed for them all. When/if that day comes... good times, good times for sure.

Holy crap the chant thing worked. Thanks for playing drewiv

The Judge was ok. I had it for a few weeks and as mentioned before, it really is a one trick pony. It sounded like a modded plexi, but my ears didn't dig it. The compression switch changed the sound and added compression. If it just added compression it would have been cool, but it wasn't.

The Salvation felt too thick for me. there were times when I wanted more gain, but without the mids and I wasn't abe to dial it out of the mod. That said, I do miss the Jose 800 tone, as it was incredible!

I'd like to try the JF 5150 mod for a marshall-ish tone and the SI 1987.

Haven't played a Mash-all...
But I would easily take the 59RR over the Judge everyday of the week.

As previously stated, the Judge does the 80s hair metal hot rodded marshall thing REALLY well.
The 59RR is just so much more versatile... there isn't a bad tone in that module. Pretty much if it was recorded through a marshall, you can cop the tone with the 59RR.

You know the thing that bugs me about the judge is that you cannot get AC DC tones out of it.. below 1 pm as mentioned before, this thing is anemic and pathetic with no punch.. They really missed the boat on that part of the design. With 220k resistor in R7 i got more usable tones below 12 but there was too much gain on tap at that point.. the only stocker left which interests me really is the 1987. Hope to grab one on a blow out.
