So what is your favorite module for the early Recto tone ?

I have a Killer early 90's Chrome Blackface Revision F Recto and would love to pick up a great sounding Recto Module to a/b using the 90's Recto's power section and see how close I can get with the module to the original .

Thoughts ?

Yes, the Diablo is the only 1 I know of that shoots for the specific tone

Please tell me more about your rectifier- I have a shot at a early 90s revF and I'm real close to pulling the trigger- is it silly to ask if it gets modern hi gain for drop tuning like C, B, or A?

I also have a 2010 reborn that I am thinking of selling because even though the reborn is a great improvement to my ears over the 3 channel ones before it I still like my early 90's a bit more. The best way to describe the Revision F version is that it is a bit smoother in tone , but yet still retains that signature grind , but the early ones had a bit more in common with the SLO circut that they originally used as the platform that started the Recto's , although they don't share a ton in common with the SLO in terms of overall tone I do find the Revision F versions much better for soloing of course and I always use a boost with any Recto just to tighten it up and get it to sing a bit more for lead and such.

if your looking for that overall really buzzsaw type of grind than the 3 channel versions may be more to your liking as I think they are a bit more aggressive , but that's not to say the earlier ones aren't I just fine them to have a more refined tone if that makes sense .

I will tell you this I will never sell my 90's Revision f and honestly it gets really heavy and works well for drop tuned stuff , but has a Killer metal rock tone as well !

Thank you for the info espquade.
No, I don't need buzzy Rectifiers, I had a 2000s single head that I liked, but only if the amp was blaring volume so I dumped it...I like your description, it matches others I have read, more tone, more Soldano, less buzz, more lead friendly, still enough chainsaw to make me happy...I may be able to pick up one in a few days!

Ever play a FJA Recto by any chance? Mailman swears by them

Yes, the Grail is one of the best stock mods out there and will get you in the ballpark of quality Recto tone. The SG Diablo is said to be 99% there, so that is worth checking out if you can find one

I love my Voodoo Recto. I used to have a early 90s black dual. I can dial the Voodoo in pretty close. It's nice and punchy.

Never played a FJA Recto , but had a FJA 5150 way back and it killed and Jerry is a cool guy and knows his stuff ! I bet it would be a really good one !

I'd jump on that early 90's Chrome Blackface if you can , because they are Killer and if you ever decide to sell it they are always easy to unload and Mesa doesn't offer the chrome chassis anymore which also makes them more sought after with the Boogie guys !

Do you know the serial # ? The lower the better ! :)

JF erect is the ****!
It is prob one of my favorite mts mods hands down.
It's better than a Mesa dual rec. still has all the punch and balls but cuts through better and not as buzzy. Extremely versatile with all the toggles, I haven't had one guitar that didn't wow me. Awesome tone! Just awesome. I play 7 and 6 strings through it all various tunings. It is my go to mod with the XMG for the heavy.

I'm looking at a
#R-001300

which I was told at RigTalk means it is a Revision F made in late 92 early 93 timeframe. Probably not a blackface/chrome, as
The blackface/chrome chassis were leftover from the first hundred Rectos made and more were found (and used) in 1995 around serial #5000. Cosmetically the same as an early Rev (attached cord, small logo) but internally a regular production Rev G.

SG= Sacred Groove
Scott is on a heitus, but I'm guessing he will return at some point. Probably not too many of his modules out there; I shad & foolishly sold off a couple of his pieces lately in order to fund this Mesa GAS

I never tried the Jaded Faith erect but had a few of his other pieces and they are super! Salvation should be mentioned as he is a true magician on hi gainers

Well mine is a 93 Blackface Chrome and serial #R-001721 and I was told that they were available as a custom order as early as 92 . Never heard they were leftover from the first 100 , but that's interesting and I will have to look into it , but mine says revision F on the board and another interesting tid bit about mine is it was owned by Ty Tabor of Kings X and was used on some of the tracks on the ( Dogman ) album ! I have a picture of him with the amp and also a certificate of documentation , so it's really a cool amp in more ways than it just sounds Killer !!!

here's a pic of the mesa I'm eyeballing

Looks like my old one I sold about 7 months ago mine was 1035 I believe and sold my pre500 a bit earlier but to be 100% honest I don't really miss them too much because they can't compare to the tones I get with my MTS setup - plus the Mamba SE I have kills it in my opinion. And the SG Diablo sounds right there with my pre500 and better than my later Mesa, it's more defined and not as piercing and fizzy.

Jeff Hilligan -- Kings's X fan, former Egnater employee, and designer of Ty's custom MTS modules -- tried to buy that Recto from the previous owner a couple times. You might think about contacting him about making a clone mod of it. I know other folks would sure be interested in one. :)
