5751 tube

So I've been looking for some preamp tube upgrades, The JAN/ 5751 goes for about $45 US, I've found other brands, older tubes etc..for much less

Is it specifically the Jan/Phillips tube that give a good result or will say a NOS Sylvania do the same? These can be had for around $15

Also, Inverter tube upgrades, any need?

honestly.. i just use JJ 5751.. balanced triodes
works just fine for me

I remember a statement from Rob (JF) saying that there's really no difference between the JJ and the Jan.

$45 these days for the Jan GE? I am glad that I picked a few up years ago in the $20 - $25 range. I can't imagine having a problem with the JJ's though.

It does feel cool though to look at the green writing on the Jan's though!

I used to buy the JAN's for my personal use when they were $15-19 each. There is NO WAY I'll spend the $40 they cost today. The JJ came out 2 years ago and it's an excellent alternative for 1/4 the price. I use these myself now.

I had a JAN crap the bed at the beginning of my band's first show. Had it in maybe three days. I use the JJ in my RM100's phase inverter now. Where else would be a good application for these?

I've never used a 5751. I generally use a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the PI. Anyone able to compare and contrast?

I have many tested (B&K 707) good Sylvania JHS-5751 Gold lettering triple Mica black plates from 1958/1959 I would part with. PM if interested. I am not a tube dealer... I just ended up with so many NOS and used tubes I bought a tester.
