Anybody? I can't return this thing to sweetwater as my dog chewed the box. Couldn't have chewed the recto box, which I like and will keep.

I believe I already have the modded one. My capacitator looks as follows.

brown grey green black black brown.

Any ideas?

Go to the Modules/Documented Modifications thread and somewhere in there it will tell you a couple things to look for on the Clean module.

I remember when the Cleans first came out they were noisy and hard to get 'clean'. I think there's a resistor you have to change that will take care of it.

My resistor looks like this.

brown grey green black black brown.

From the Document.

"There was an issue discovered after several production runs in all the clean to mid-gain Randall models including the Clean, Blackface, DLX, Top Boost, Plexi, JTM, & Brown, that causes excess distortion overloading the input gain. Too eliminate this issue and clean up these modules, position R1 which is a 470 ohm 1/2w resistor, needs to be changed to a 150 Ohm 1/2w resistor. This is only the early production Randall models and some of the early Egnater models. The new modules have been fixed at the factory but you should check any current module that you have. You can identify what value is in your module by the color bands located on the resistor, 470 ohm resistors have yellow, purple, and brown color bands, where the correct 150 ohm resistors have brown, green, brown color bands"

So I have neither of these. What's up?

You have a 185 ohm 1% tolerence resistor (I think).

You have six colors listed, I'm pretty sure most resistors will have at most five color bands. The first three are the 'digits', the fourth is the multiplier, and the fifth is the tolorence. But I suppose there could be some new fangled 4 digit resistors out there.

If you can take a good pic of it and contact okstrat (Pete), he could give you a much better answer. He does a ton of mods for the MTS modules and knows them all pretty well.

Change R 1,2,3 to 150ohms each. Get 1/2 watt resistors from Radio Shack or wherever. Not sure which resistor you're looking at, those 3 I mentioned should clean up the module quite a bit if it's the wrong value.

Also, a lower gain tube, at least in V1 of the module.

Yeah, but the 150 ohms in the right spot should make that module plenty clean. I have a steinberger synapse with EMGs and I couldn't make my stock clean module distort.

I like the overall tone of my Blackface but I can't get it clean on its own. I run a Boss GT-pro that can out FX either in front of the am or in the loop. I use the comp effect on it in the input to lower the input gain going into it, it helps clean me up

Sounds like somthing might be wrong with your Blackface. I can crank my gain knob and it never distorts/breaks-up.

Did you get your Blackface new or used? Someone may have modded it.
