Opposite perspective here. I've owned and greatly enjoyed quite a few of the modded MTS units over the years, but to me the Synergy modules sound deeper and fuller, and have a lower noise floor, than anything that predates them. It's especially noticeable in person, in a side-by-side comparison.
On the downside, the Synergy units typically have fewer switching options, and tend not to have as much scorching gain.
Different strokes, and all that. As always, play what you like. 8)
