....I don't think anyone wants a noob walking in and being told that a 1666 went for 226.99 on the bay when most of us know that was a 350 mod a year ago....

Interesting discussion . . . I can see valid arguments for both sides of the coin. But I guess the bottom line is that each seller is going to do whatever he or she wants to do with their own post once it's sold.

I dont see anything wrong with leaving the prices. How else are we going to set value?

Bottom line? Past sales are NOT indicative of fair market value when viewed in isolation. As others have said, you really need to be constantly watching the sales on the board (and other boards) and consider what price you are willing to pay for something given the average sale price over MANY sales, as well as your particular circumstances and motivation(s).

Agreed.

Side story to maybe hit the point home. I appologize if it conjures up any ill will/feelings.
Matt recently sold a Salvation 1666, ended up going to fleabay with it & got well less than he could have here had he had the time (or other limiting factor) to sit on it a while. I'm pretty sure it was the lowest I have seen a Salvation high gainer go for. It also started somewhat of a spat/discussion. My understanding is this mod was up FS/FT here by another member & reduced down to in the neighborhood of $250. Matt did some type of $$, trade, &/or both. For how much I don't know & really don't care. When Matt was trying to sell it, he marked it at a price he (& probably many others) felt was fair & reasonable. A public offering was made for what previous owner had advertised & below Matt's asking price. I just don't think we need this kind of headache. I also think this goes both ways. Just because a mod sold for $300 a year ago doesn't mean it is worth that today in this market. Also say Salvation stops making the Mashall+ & it becomes a "collectors" item, does that mean it is only worth $350, $400 becasue it sold for that 6 months ago. No it probably would shoot up significantly.

Yeah, not a big deal...but not exactly how it happened.....The post asked for trades/offers....I simply offered what it was previously posted for, there was no price posted when I made my cash offer..offer was declined, which was cool...didnt really think it was a big deal since it had only been maybe a week since it was previously listed and this is a relatively tight knit community....a high percentage of the regulars monitor these threads,so there are not really any secrets..lol... and for the most part,we all treat each other right with cash/trade deals......great group of guys on here and Ive only had problems with one member, which I wouldnt deal with....I think that is pretty good....

Valid point. And that thread from what I remember turned out amicable. Not to mention any deal that may start out public likely is completed in private. I guess I don't want past sales necessarily dictating what I should mark items at or what I should offer. Welcome to the ebbs and flows of gear. I can remember 10 years ago a used USA Jackson for $600 or so wasn't unheard of. Somehow they revitalized and pushed up to $1000+ in the last few years.

Yeah, used gear can be fickle...I was very young, but I can remeber when you could get a LP custom in a pawn shop for a few hundred bucks....The shred guitarsists rendered them worthless.......They were just too big and heavy for alot of those little shrdeders...lol.....though Randy played one and his was a little guy,but most guys didnt like them becasue they were heavy and alot didnt like the look.I remeber reading an interview with Ace Frehley when he said he sold alot of his collection for dirt becasue of this....said he had some very nice intages as well...guess his habits forced the sale back then...lol.....anyways.....modules are a very niche' market as well...only valuable to a few select in the know like us....lol....they seem to follow the model of most used gear though....resale is 50-80% of new value depending on the module and demand and the seller's desire to move it quickly....alot of us post on here to sell becasue we want to move it quickly becasue after,we have our sights on something else....Ive seen a few Savoso sell recently for closer to $400 on here becasue the sellers stayed firm on price..but it took a while....all just depends on what you have and how badly you want to sell it really....especially on here or any specialized forum really...
