I ordered my MOD 50 head today. Frank and I decided to load it with 5881 power tubes since I wanted something in between 6L6 and the EL34 sound. If that doesn't do it I'll just load it with the JJ 6V6 I have in my RM50 HB.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see that thing show up.

Congrats! You made a GREAT choice with 5881s. You will love them. What modules are you getting?

-Matt

Since I am a long time customer, Frank let me order with no modules. Three months ago he built me an EG3 and SL which I will be using with my Axxes GRX4 to route pedals with for variations. I really just wanted to get in the Q so that my order was down with them. Within the next 3 weeks I should have cash for at least one dual channel, so basically I did what XXspiderfingersXX did.

It will be loaded with an EG3/4 for sure in slot two. Slot one will get a B'man or an SL. I like the B'man alot but I have really been using my Eggie SL a lot lately, and the dual channel version gives you a Plexi on the lighter side, that will be hard to beat.

Eventually I will get COD and maybe an XTC.

Are 5881's the same thing as KT-88's? I get all the tube names confused! ;) Congrats man, very cool! :D

Not sure about all the tubes in the KT family. I told Frank I like the 6L6 for clean, but I also liked EL34 for distortion. Spank and sponge. He said the 5881 would ride the line between those two and probably be the most satisfying for trying to bridge that gap.

6550 is the equivelent to kt-88. 5881 is like a lower powered 6l6 (sometimes called a 6l6WGB).

From what I've read 5881 are not to be used on amps with plate voltages of more than 475 volts. But thats just what I've read somewere. Maybe it doesn't matter

so you don't pay for your order until its ready then? also, how long until he said you should expect to receive it? as soon as I get my tax returns, I'll be able to pay for my order (expected within 2 weeks). should I put my order in now?

Congrats man! I have been thinking about a stable mate for my Mod100. Just not sure--Mod 50 or M4?....Mod50 or M4?????
Rock on....

I ordered through Indoor Storm. They charged 20% up front and then the other 80% when it shipped 4 weeks later. Its drop-shipped from Egnater directly too so you wont lose time with them sending to IS first or anything like that.

I just ordered direct from frank and he said dont worry about payment until shipment time. I also explained my financial position and he said theyd call me close to completion to give me time to make sure of everything.

so id go through em direct.!

I ordered from Frank like spider did. I did not ask for any details. I know I want it and the rest is small stuff. But yes, he said to pay when it's ready for shipment. I didn't even ask about how long. I want it yetserday but these are not mass produced. They are hand built works of sonic art. I have learned that, god love them, it always takes a little longer than they say it will every time I order, so I decided not to put a date in my head and then be longing for its arrival. They'll get it done when it's done and that's fine by me. I'm just happy it's gonna happen!

Thanks for the tip! It seems like those who order through Indoor Storm get theirs a little quicker? 4 weeks was mentioned, but how long have you guys seen lead times going direct?

i was given an estimate of 4-6 weeks. I avoided indoor storm because i prefer to be able to go right to the source, and im in no rush. But I.S. probably gets them a bit faster then a direct order simply due to the dealer/producer relationship they hold with music products group.

UPDATE!!!

Go search eBay right now for a MOD 50 head with three modules, Twin/Vox, B'man & SL. Comes with footswitch and original shipping. It's only a few weeks old.

That baby is mine! :)

Frank was fine about cancelling my order. I changed it to an order for the EG3/4 module.

I cant find the listing. Is it still up?

What the heck is a Twin/Vox?

I wonder why the seller it getting rid of it so soon! What are they thinking?!? Oh well, their loss, your gain!

Wow, congrats dude! Amazing that thing has a T/V with it....have those even been out very long?

Does it have reverb?

Slammin' deal! Now you see guys, the dude who was selling his on here was asking $1550 shipped w/ two modules or $1750 shipped with three modules! If I had the funds I would have grabbed it! That's still a great deal, congrats man! 8)
