Is it true that the Egnater VP-4 is modular ?

I remember seeing a picture, where a VP-4 had been modified to take Randall/ Egnater Modules. I think it was on ebay some time ago.

Does anybody know details about this ? For example: Is this modification easy to do ? Have the VP-4 modules to be ?cut? out and how are the Randall/ Egnater attached to the VP-4 then ? Perhaps anybody has some pics ?

Thanks a lot,
Stephan

From what I've read, the mts modules work in the vp4. The big difference is that the vp4 'modules' are doubled up side by side. So, there are only 2 faceplates (horizontal). If you want to use a mts module you'd need to cut the vp4 module. There's other options too, if you get creative.

Thanks, the "close up" pictures of the VP-4 help a lot !

One can see, that the main issue would be to cut the VP-4 modules in the middle.

Since there are four screws on each of the faceplates, the randall or egnater modules should be attachable to the VP-4 afterwards (like they are on the rm4 / m4).

Any other ideas on how to "modify" the VP-4 to take modules are welcome !

1. Use all mts modules (4)
2. Buy replacement faceplates to attach existing (vp4) modules, from Randall website.
3. Custom faceplates; http://mtsforum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=2075

OK. Here's the deal on the VP4. About 6 years ago Rocktron came to us to see if we could help them put the Rocktron version IE4 back into production. In the move over to GHS, they had lost all the files for the IE4. We did not have the information (board files, metal CAD files etc) to reproduce the same Rocktron IE4. They then requested a non-modular version of our modular M4 preamp with their own sounds as an alternative. That is the VP4. It is basically the same as our early Egnater M4 preamp minus the loops. Difference is the openings in the front panel do not allow a full module to fit in. If you look inside, the module circuit boards are there but not in the normal tray assembly with each having their own front panel. You have two options to make it accept other modules. A: Remove your modules from their trays and attach them to the Rocktron panels. B: Cut the openings in the VP4 front panel to allow the modules to fit past. Note...this is no easy task because the front panel is stainless steel. C: Modify the VP4 modules to whatever circuit you wish. They do use the same 'generic" circuit as the early Egnater modules. We built a single batch of about 25 VP4's for Rocktron. They never produced any more after that so they are quite rare.
