Hi guys,

I'm in the process of ordering a Egnater mod50 head loaded with two modules.
Now I'm a little thorn betwen what modules to choose. I'm a huge Petrucci fan, and I love his tone.
So I guess what I'm looking for is that agressive sound without the fizzy highs and with tight buttom end.
What module will suit me best, the MHG or E-rect?

I have an MHG, but only played the E-Rect at real low volumes at NAMM once. MHG is tight, defined, and has plenty of gain. But I dont think it sounds all that much like Petrucci's tone to me. Its pretty compressed and is agressive but warm. It actually seems to have a Bogner XTC Red channel vibe going on for me. A little bit of Soldano too. Ive heard some call it Diezel like, but I cant say since Im havent spent enough time time with a Diezel to verify that.

Honestly, if you want the early (IMO best) Petrucci overdriven tones, I dont think there is an MTS module for you. He used a Mark IIC+ for that stuff and I dont know of any modules that really "do" that.

If you want more recent Petrucci overdriven tones (from Train of Thought on) you probably want E-Rect as its the closest thing to the Road King he's been using.

As for cleans, I am absolutely blown away by the Twin/Deluxe module. You'll want the twin because its probably closest to the Lonestar Petrucci uses and because it will give you the cleanest cleans possible. That fact that you get a hot Deluxe on channel B is icing on the cake (You will use it because it sounds amazing!).

Good luck. Youll be happy any way you choose though I think. Egnater's stuff is just that good.

I had both and sent 'em back. The eg3/4 module is a better lead tone than either of those other two. I found the erect module to be tubby myself.

The MHG is incredible....you can absolutely nail Vai's "Alien Love Secrets" tone as well as the 3rd channel of the Diezel Herbert......truly awesome module :!:

The E-rect is cool as well...sounds like the older two channel Rectos......."Dogman".... :D
