I am new to module type amps. I can't believe it took so long. This is great! I have been building effects pedals for years. I hope this is an appropriate question for this forum.
I just picked up an RM 20 and it has a Super V module. I would like to add additional gain and to tighten up the bottom some. I presume along the lines of an XTC or 5150. I would appreciate any suggestions and help. Thanks, David

Welcome! Would love to see/hear your pedals!

I am no expert modder so I'll let those guys answer your question specifically....But I will say that I'm not sure that particular module can get the gain levels you desire....There are a few different makes that are used as "donor" modules for modding. I don't know where the Super V falls in that category...

Thanks Mattfig, I guess I have to learn the lingo as well..ie. donor module, :)

Hiyas,

Sorry about the lingo thing....Basically there are a few stock boards, some for cleans, mids, xtc high gain, mesa and marshall high gain....Some boards are more open to having more drastic changes to them and the Super V is a calmer mod to start with...But I'm a moron so wait to hear from someone who really knows...

When you send a stock "donor" module into a modder they request certain donors for certain products...If you check http://www.salvationmods.com and http://www.jadedfaithmods.com they both have acceptable donor lists...And you can see what's out there! These guys will take your Super V and transform it into a Matchvox or Voxless and make you very happy...

Thanks, that was really very helpful. I was looking to do a few component change. I might just have one of the modders work on it if no feedback.

I'm "GUESSING" that the Super V is on the popular "Brit Module" platform same as Top Boost, Tweed, Plexi, SL, SL+, JTM and whatever others I've missed.

"IF" that's true, then you can easily have two or three gain stages on the module (plus V1a and sometimes V1b if the boost feature is in your host chassis), plus a Cathode Follower.

"IF" that's not true please disregard.

You can jump traces to move things around to some degree, and of course play with stage biasing/bypassing, tone stack and bright cap values, coupling caps (and tube gain via type) etc.

Have fun, MTS is a great platform for modding as most of it's already done for you i.e. the Power Supplies, FX Loop, Channel Switching etc.

Not knowing your level of "expertise" and the amount of work you're willing to do, my suggestion is to look into a XTC or one of the "rectifier" based modules .

The Super V (and Top Boost) aren't the greatest platforms for simple modding from Vox tones to high gain XTC or 5150 tones. But that doesn't mean it can't be done though.

You can email me here: [email protected] for some ideas I have for modding your Super V.

Just to let you know, SacredGroove is a wizard when it comes to this stuff. I own five of his modules, and they are simply stunning. So modding advice from him is worth its weight in gold.

+1, that he is!
