No kidding eh? Amazing how Randall screwed up the spec or somewhere didn't listen to Dave. That said, I really did end up liking my stock
brahma. I think there were 2 stock versions though because the second one i had picked up was BRUTAL. No gain and thin. A total sack of ****. The first one that came with my lynchbox was awesome and to date is still my fave model. I might have to get my hands on a stock scary then at some point and do the switch as somewhere i remember seeing a supposed Friedman scary and it was only slightly tweaked. Small changes can make for big differences though....

Just to confirm what Brewtus said . . . I got a PM from Dave about a month ago when I asked about him modding dual-channel modules:

The cost is 169 for a Egnater mod always has been.

He didn't address my question regarding turnaround time though . . . but from what I understand it can be very long.

The Freidman SLO is based on the Randall Scary . There were threads ages ago in which stated that the original Brahmas and Scary's were specd wrong .
Maybe the new production models fixed this but it basically a tweaked to a Scary .The Black eye I believe is a hotter more aggresive HBE

I wouldn't put much stock in the "out of spec" talk these days. It was only the initial batch that was off and it wasn't a huge difference tonally from what it was supposed to be. I would wager most of those modules have been modded at this point as well. It's been over 2 years since I last saw one of those original Brahmas, and I see a LOT of modules here!

Ahhhhhh nuts Rob thanks for being a party spoiler! I just scored a supposed correct spec Brahma and if it is no different than my beloved Brahma then really, that was money NOT well spent 8)

I was interested in the Friedman SLO until I read this if there is any truth to it....The Mr. Scary sounds nothing like a SLO...closer to a modded jcm800....The Soldano amps have a very distinct tone and are one of my favorite amps....

I am in talk to DF about doing a SLO and he said it needed to be built on a Treadplate module. I dont think the Scary is very Soldano sounding. I have a newer blackfaced Brahma and a DF built Brahma on a Plexi module. They are similar in tone but the DF modded plexi is much more alive sounding.

That may actaully be cool...the Recto modules are very thich and full sounding like a real Soldano.....

I remember it being said that the real amps had extreme similarities in either the power or pre amp but I dont remember which.

Brewtus- Let us know how that pans out with DF- The Scary sounds nothing like a Soldano- It is definitely hot rodded Marshall in nature...

Anybody ever get a Brahma modded by JF?
How did it turn out?
What type of mod/s did you get?
Can you describe the tonal qualities pre vs. post mod?

Thanks!
