I am definitely in favor of a hughes & kettner or diezel module. Those amps are so sick but they are ridiculously over-priced for a common player, the only thing that strikes me as close to a diezel and affordable is a genz benz. Any more ideas?

i agree a rockman type sound would be great (Its really a Marshall super lead and an extra gain stage).

I personally would love to see a...
Diezel VH4 module, what ever gets you the tone off of Tool's 10,000 days
Soldano SLO100
And a clean Hiwatt
Maybe even a Bogner Uberschall

Actually that'd be my dream set up for my RM4 Diezel VH4 (channel 3), Soldano SLO 100 and Bogner Uberschall on my Dist and Hiwatt for my cleans!

just for kicks what about a couple of "solid state" modules

(obviously the poweramp is still tube)

JC120 (with built in chorus)
Dimebag module

I'm thinking if there are no tubes in the modules maybe they could fit cool extra's in them , like a chorus knob on the JC120 and maybe a contour or something on the dimebag.

thats one of the great things about the module style amps..the possibilitys are endless..id like to see umm..maybe

diezel Vh4
soldano slo 100
framus cobra
bogner uberschall
hiwatt would be cool..

haha pretty much any amp that sounds great that the normal person cant afford but would love to have :D

I'd love a clean Hiwatt module!

How about some boutique modules?
Dr Z
Black Cat

How about a couple of Randall original mod's ....try and suprise us..with something new and fresh ??? maybe blend a couple of different mods to make a new beast??

I would like to get my hands on Engl and Diezel modules myself. Perhaps one of those original style Dual Rectifier amps (the ones with the terrible effects loop) with the modwork done to them, those were hot.

I do like the idea, but mixing valve and solid state in this way would be almost impossible, I'm affraid. We are talking voltages of several hundreds of volts that should be interfaced with solid state and then reinterfaced with valve. I do think however, one could design a module to sound like the JC120 but with the qualities inherent in valve technology.

j_t,

I don't know much about the specifics of guitar amps, so maybe I'm way off, but why would it be such a big deal to interface an SS pre into valve power section?

There are several companies that interface tube pre's with SS power sections. Is doing the reverse that much different? I realize in those cases the entire amp is designed/built around that configuration.

So is the difficulty in being able to get an SS module to have a high enough output voltage to supply the tube power section?

Genuinely curious.

I think any of the above would be cool but if I could pick I would go with

Diezel Vh4
Soldano slo 100
Peavey 5150
SRV/Clapton Sig Mods

hey Marshall did that in the early 90s with an amp called the Artist 3203... its gotta be my fave Marshall i have ever heard in person

its funny though i HATE the sound of every marshall i have ever played through but some of my fave tones come from players using them.... the Artist was an awesome amp tho

Ok, I'm gonna chime in here with a thought.

How 'bout two modules based on the KH-1 and KH-3 BUT with two rows of mini tone knobs. One row of knobs could be an over all set of "normal" tone controls i.e. bass, middle & treble. The other row of knobs would be a built in 3 or 4 band parametric eq with a mini switch to bypass said built in parametric eq.

Another crazy idea, I would like to experiment with modules that have their own front loaded series effects loop so you could, in theory, set up a module specific effects chain that goes away the instant you channel switch to a different module. This would be great for those who want to have say an over all effect unit in the "master" serial effects loop such as a BBE Sonic Maximizer or a compressor and have say a parametric eq or something on just one module. It would cutdown on external switching device usage in certain rig configurations.

Thoughts?

Hey

I really like the idea of a Dimebag module since he used Randall gear at some point didnt he? So I guess it wouldnt be too tricky to model a module after his tone, and it wouldnt have to actualy BE solid state just sound like his tone.

Also, whoever suggested some original Randall tones, I think thats a great idea too :D

Yeah......a WARHEAD module! Those sounded Killer for metal playing. I know.......I know......Solid state...but hey, it kicked butt!! 8)

I'd be very surprised to see any new modules that aren't some sort of signature series module. Doesn't seem like the normal modules get any love any more from a promotional/developmental standpoint.

Prove me wrong, please...
