I just traded my Line 6 Spider III 75 for a Epiphone SG G-400 :D

The pickups aren't working for me. They don't have the same punch my EMG's have. I need some suggestions on what to get.

Budget: $200-$300, but preferrably closer to $200
Amp: RM80 with 1087 and Blackface modules.
Genre: Melodic Death Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Metalcore...just about any "metal" you can think of. I occasionally veer outside of metal, but not often. Bands like In Flames, Soilwork, At The Gates, Shadows Fall, All That Remains, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, etc. etc.

I am considering the SD Blackouts just to see how they compare with the EMGs. But i was also thinking about looking into getting some nice passives. What passives do metal really well?? I'm looking at either DiMarzios or Seymour Duncans. And i would prefer pickups that are similar in appearance to the stock pickups; i.e. nothing black. Something with metal covers.

Thanks, John.

Can't go wrong with EMGs 81/85s !!!!!! :D
I have the EMG 81/60 combo in my Jackson right now, so i want something different. Something that will give me more variety. But EMGs are great nonetheless.

I'm probably going to go with the Blackouts with the nickel covers. But i may get some DiMarzios or other SD's that come with covers. Any suggestions?? Something good for metal??

Thanks, John.

i Have some seymour duncan blackouts for sale if your interested, they're black not the nickel, but blackouts none the less. I'll throw in two pots, input jack, wiring, battery and battery pack. Shoot me a P.M. if your interested.

* Gibson Dirty Fingers. -- these are high output passives. Run $119 ea. They're the hottest pickup Gibson makes -- even hotter than the Iommi sigs or 500T.

* Or you could go with the Dirty Fingers bridge, and '57 Classic or 490R in the neck.

With two passives like this you could maybe do a couple push/pull coil taps for some versatility. I'm thinking a little more versatility 'cause you never know when you're gonna get da blues.

* For Duncan passives, Dimebucker bridge, Jazz in the neck with the coil taps. The 59 doesn't do a coil tap.

Duncan actives don't do coil taps, but they sound great.

* Duncan Livewires signature Mustaines. These sound fantastic.

* I like the Blackouts better than EMGs tonally, but they're really hot output.

I usually end up playing with the volume knob at 8 with my Alexi witht he Blackout.

I would love to have some blackouts, but i'm broke. I'm just looking for some ideas right now.

I would have had $400 if my clarinet sale went through (which was intended for that Pete Recto you have for sale) but the person who inquired was a scammer. Its been six months an three people have asked about it....two being scammers.

I though you sold the blackouts...or do you have a second pair...?

I hope i sell it soon......i was lucky enough to get the SG for the spider so i guess anything can happen. I'm selling it for 50% off of retail price. I hope someone comes along soon. But it seems highly unlikely.

The deal with the blackouts didn't work out, the buyer didn't want them cause there was only two pots , not four. SO he sent them back to me.

Ah, i see. Well if i get the money, i know who to contact! The blackouts use a different pot value right? 250K? Do you know where i can get two more? I'd like to keep the two volume two tone configuration. Do you know if there is a way to put the metal covers on it? I'd really like something looks like the stock pickups.

Thanks, John.

You can find pots at your local music store for cheap, $5.00 for two maybe less. Im not sure about putting covers on pups, never tried it. Talk to you later.
