I've been playing with my two RM50 combos on amp stands to make it easier to reach the knobs for quite a while. On a whim I put them both on the floor to hear the difference. H#LY ****!!
All of the sudden everything just sounds amazing. Having those speakers face directly in to my ears wasn't doing me any favors. I didn't think it was any worse than having a slanted front 4x12, but getting those high frequencies aimed lower works wonders for me. I feel like I can hear the character of the speaker cabinet better at this angle as well. The sound has just been inspiring to play.

That's why the ended up on the floor at the LA Amp Show! I was playing them the Friday night before the show and thinking "this is not going to work." Put them on the floor and there it was, everything sounded like it should!

I agree, putting a amp against a wall, in a corner ect. makes a huge difference. Some amps sound better off the floor but the rm50 is one that I prefer in a corner, on the floor.

I had forgotten all about that as it was months later when the amps were set up again! First I was sick for almost a month and then I had to build the studio in the garage.
I can't wait to play again tonight!

Everything makes a difference to sound. Sure makes live mixing difficult, but at the same time rewarding.

I'm glad I found this thread. Was thinking about getting one of those amp stands. For Hana's I put the amp on a sturdy table to try it up higher. Sounds much better on the floor.

Thanks - saved me from buying something I wouldn't use.

fwiw, just to be Nick's advocate...
there is a type of stand out there that has a port in it..maybe thats an exception to the rule that "amps on stands=bad"
I dont know ..never owned that kind of stand...
just sayin
