Just curious, seen this now and then - why do you guys seek out 'early' versions of modules or sometimes 'newer' versions? There are minute differences, but they can be changed pretty quickly with a soldering iron.

Not making a judgement, was just wondering. Are some module revisions seen as 'better' for other reasons?

Pete

i've had four different rectos 2 silverfaced and 2 blackstriped, one was recto and the other rectified. i guess each was different componet wise , some stuff looked different from vrsion to version. for example the blackstipe versions had blue squares for c3 and the silverfaces had the poly randall looking caps , but i could never tell the difference in any of them sound wise. i kept hoping that one of them would actually sound like a real mesa but i guess not. i've heard people set their mesa in a way that the recto could duplicate but the recto is way too fat and doesn't have near enough gain to sound like the real thing. changing the c3 only takes bass out instead of tightning the response and i don't know how to get more gain out of it without using a pedal which i don't like anyway. seems that the ultra is the only module capable of getting close to the real mesa but it is a little too scooped for me. sorry i guess i got way off topic on this

Hey gonna ask noob question but whats the difference between a silverface and blackstripe?
And also the difference between the Recto and Rectified? is there more gain?
Again sorry to be a noob! :?

silverface are 1 st generation blackstripes are 2 nd generation. recto , rectified, treadplate all sound exactly the same, to me anyway . they are supposed to be the same, i believe the name changes because of mesa owning the moniker prefix of recto. got grammatical on that didn't i

Maximus1 is right but it's not even that cut and dry. Even within the 2nd generation there may have been a part change here or there. Personally I don't think the silverface modules are really that much better. A lot of the changes that have been made have been for the better. A few of the modules now come w/ the cap mod which is somthing almost everone was doing to their modules anyway.

Well I suppose you were considering my post about looking for an early recto module.
In fact a friend of mine told me to look for the earlier version because it was supposed to sound better.
I'm a newbie to randall MTS so I trusted him...
By the way, I'm definately decided to buy any of them at a good price 8)
I can't imagine my RM4 without a recto mod inside.
