I got my Brown and Plexi modules modded by Pete and tonight was my first show with them in my RM4. I could not be happier. They are the two modules I use the most and they both have taken on a whole new life. Last week I also replaced my Marshall 9100 power amp with a VHT 2/50/2 and my rig is sick sounding.

My band has a fairly high-end PA put together by a good friend of ours who also does FOH for George Strait. He happened to come down tonight to help our regular sound engineer tweak our rig and he was really impressed with how open my rig sounded compared to last time he heard it.

It's hard to describe guitar tones with words but I have to say those two modules now have it all. Between them I get the most Marshally tones I've ever gotten, even when I played Marshalls.

Even though this is an obvious positive plug for Pete's work, please do NOT send him any of your modules to mod any time soon so he will have more time to work on the rest of mine.

Seriously, Pete's a great guy with a fantastic ear and if you have ever considered having him mod your modules you should do it.

How are you digging the modded Brown? I just got mine back from Pete last week and I'm loving the thick 5150 like tone. I was really surprised at the difference Pete's mod made on this one.

How do you have the Treble knob set on your Brown? I'm finding that mine needs to be at 3 o'clock or higher to get any high end. Also, what tubes are you running? I still can't decide if I like JJ ECC83s or Sovtek WA's, but I'm leaning toward the JJ's.

PS - Congrats on the VHT. That probably made all the difference in the world. :)

I use my Brown for more of a hot-rodded Marshall tone. The gain is a hair past noon and then I can boost it with a Sparkle Drive to give it some more gain and top end for leads. Boosted, it gets me just this side of the early Van Halen brown sound. My highs are at about 2-3 o'clock. I believe it has the stock EH tubes.

I am using an XTC module for my heavy tones but I think I may get another Brown modded and use it with the gain cranked for heavier tones.

In any case, the Pete modded modules have noticeably more openess and sustain than my stock modules.

Kent-

You using the Sparkle Drive model in your GSP1101 or still using the pedal?

I'm still using the real Sparkle Drive. Those virtual overdrive/distortion boxes on the Digitech are okay for tone shaping and adding distortion but they don't have much of a front end boost quality.

You running the Sparkle Drive right into the front of the GSP1101 with the RM4 in the loop.

Yes. After much experimentation, this seems to get the best result from the Sparkle Drive. When it was in the loop with the RM4 it reacted much like the stomp box models in the GSP1101. It would effect the tonality but it didn't boost the front end of the preamp like I needed.

Hey...yeah Pete is THE MAN...I have a Plexi, SL+ and a JTM all modded by Pete and they are the stuff...as you said more Marshally than Marshalls, if that is possible! Can't wait to get my hands on Pete modded Brown!
