This is from the RM4 manual.

Saving a Preset:
Pressing and holding the channel select switch for 2 seconds will store your current settings. When used with the foot controller, select
button 1 on the foot controller, then set to channel 1 using the front panel channel switch button. (both the footswitch and channel 1 light
should be lit). Press and hold the channel select switch for 2 seconds, and this will store your current settings with the footswitch. The
footswitch will not select any preferred channel. To reset, simply turn the preamp off/on, and repeat the above steps.

What settings, exactly, do these presets store? Gain & EQ settings? If not, then what?

Is that all? My footswitch worked right out of the box w/o setup. I suppose you could have switch 2 activate amp 3, etc. But why would anyone want to do that? :)

Thanks

that's it, the whole ball of wax. i only had one of my RM4s come programmed improperly. if button 1 on the footswitch makes channel 1 come up and so forth, you're set.

Yes - but using it with a MIDI footswitch and a multi fx it makes sense.
Lets say you have a Plexi module in slot 1

Then button 1 on the f/s may activate module 1 (plexi) and your multi FX may be also set to have basic reverb on patch 1 on it's settings

But on f/s patch 2 you still want to keep the plexi on but switch the FX to include echo or flange

Then you will need to switch module 1 to match midi position 2 on the footswitch.
