Hello, new here. I'm same user id on the boogie board. Wondering about the RM4 and the power amp that goes with it, the 50W

Over on another forum which is very biased towards high end amps such as bogner, mesa, engl they are saying that Randall is cheap crap.

Well as far as I know, Dime use to use Randall, did he not?

So how is the sound / reliability? I'm new to randall. However the module thing intigues me.

I'm selling my mesa recto pre and 2:100 power amp because I'm sick of the tone sapping serial loop on it and the fact that it has no midi and is not really designed to hook effects into. Couped with that is the basic 1 tone thing. Well you got a modern and vintage setting but the modern is too bassy for me.

So speak up folks, help me aboard.

Kevin

The sound is fantastic my reliability experience has been great also. I would be misleading you to say that there have never been problems with the MTS line of stuff. That being said, what I have seen on this forum is that there are occassional problems (same as EVERY brand), but the help and cooperation you get directly from Randall folks here on this forum is outstanding (NOT the same as every brand).

Yes, Dime used to use Randall solid states.

As for the modules, they give a ton of flexibility. The ones that are modelled after other amps, the Plexi for example, does not sound *exactly* like an actual Plexi. However, it is very close and sounds awesome in its own right. Remember, the power amp has quite a large impact on the overall tone of an amp. Plus, the large selection of stock tones available can get you anywhere from cleaned up AC30 all the way to screamin'-rip-your-face-off metal. All that on on the same amp!

Then of course, there are modificationss to the modules. Look up 'okstrat' on this forum. He does some bada$$ mod work. There are other people who do mods on the modules, but his are the only ones I've used.

Then you have to consider the Egnater modules (single channels) that have their own tones.

The point being that you WILL find tones that you like on this amp.

What do you mean here?

"Then you have to consider the Egnater modules (single channels) that have their own tones.

I don't understand the single channels? This amp has capability for 4 modules, correct? That means 4 channels I assume?

What I'm looking to do is integrage this with a new digitech 1101 and try to control the whole thing with one midi pedal, like a berringher.

I don't know anything about midi, but what I want and I don't know if I'll be able to do this is have a clean module and press one button on the floor and have the amp switch to clean with chorus, press another and have it switch to another module with delay.

Is that type of thing possible?

My mesa recording preamp had a parallel effects loop. you hook 2 pedals to it and turn up the mix pot and your tone goes south like you wouldn't believe.

I'll be purchasing the power amp that goes with this if I do buy this RM4

The newer Egnater modules have 2 channels. The originals were 1 channel, like the Randall modules. Egnater will also have 1 channel modules again, but with the 2nd channel of the 2 channel modules.

One tap MIDI control you're asking about is totally possible. A lot of guys here have that setup including myself.

i got my rm4/ and 2/50 a few weeks back.
Very happy with it
I am also going to be selling my recto pre.I may keep the 2:100.
I need more time to decide which amp to keep. But the recto is going for sure.

The recto is nice, but extremely limited.
