hey guys,
I just got and rm 4 and Im trying to midi map a nova system to select the RM4s channels.
Im aware of the dip switches, and I have set them to what I think is channel 1...that would be all 4 in the top position if youre facing the front of the unit...no luck so far

the nova system does not allow for setting a midi value (127), would that implty that it defaults to 127, and, does the RM 4 care about this?
I also noticed another pair of dipswitches on the back right of the midi input area...anyone know what they are?

any input would be appreciated
thnx
jack

I don't know exactly what you mean by the 127...

Program changes don't have a "value". Control change messages contain a "controller" and "value" part to the message, so essentially "what you're controlling" and "what value to set" respectively.

Anyway, the switches all to one side is either channel 1 or channel 16 (depending on whether they're all set to "on" or all to "off").

On the Nova System:
- Set Program change out to "on"
- Set the channel to 1 or 16 (omni should work too .. but I'm not sure about that)
- Use PgrMap to map the presets to channels on your amp (you could also not do this, and save a channel to each program on the RM4, see below)

Does your RM4 work with the Randall footswitch?
If not or if you don't have one:

- Select a program/preset on the footswitch/nova system
- Choose a channel on the RM4 for that preset
- Press and hold the channel button on the RM4 for 5 sec.
- Rinse and repeat for the next preset
- Switch to and fro to see whether it works!

its occuring to me that, I wont be able to have multiple patches on the nova assigned to the same channel on the rM, as the the nova maps the control # to the patch as opposed to the other way around.

and I assume that assigning the RM to an incoming message ( press and hold) can only be done once per module, without overwriting the initial assignment.
will an external controller address this? although I dont see how.
thnx again for helping
jack

On the RM a channel can be assigned to multiple PC's.
Or more correctly: more than one PC can have the same channel assigned to them.

PC0 : CH1
PC1 : CH1
PC2 : CH2
PC3 : CH2
PC4 : CH3
PC5 : CH4

Etc.

I think this is also the most user friendly for yourself, to change a channel you only have to choose the preset and assign the channel on the RM, instead of having to dig into the Nova System's menu.

thats amazing!!!, I cant thank you enough, Mojo...

It just didnt make sense that you could have it respond to anumber of patches

thanx again

Haha I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not ;)
But hey, if we can help eachother out that rocks right? Now I'm going to go nerd out on modded modules in another thread! 8)

It would be pretty cool if you get the Nova System working northwood, MTS with a quality multi-effect is a strong combination! :D

IM blown away!, I had extravagent midi setups years ago ( surround sound panning for sound design that I did etc) but I cant figure how the hell the module will stockpile multiple channels as sources for changing.

It makes for tons of options instantly available with one button, (well...not counting the bank select)

special thanx to mojo, Im still shaking my head!!
