I recently tried a few longplate 12ax7's in my amps input v1 and they all went microphonic immediately. It seems the only valves i found that last in that position are my Tung Sol r/i's (or Sovtek). I came to the conclusion that the tube layout in the RM is not like my Marshall. I used to think the modules where just line level "tone shapers" and V1 (in the amp) was the same as V1 in any other tonestack input.
I resorted to placing my Mullard r/i's in the modules themselves. Anyone know what the output voltage is w/the modules and where the actuall tone stack begins?Like is it module V1+V2 +amp V1+V2+P/I? This might help me with valve placement and gain choice. Thanks, Mike

Tonestack is dependent on the module, it's not fixed. Fender style modules will have it closer to the input, marshalls closer to the end (but before the PI, of course).

The modules aren't just 'tone shapers' they are full preamps. The V1 tube is a preamp tube before it gets to the module. Are you using a combo or head? Sounds like a combo to me.

It's a RM 50 head. What sockets in the BF and Scary deal w/tone specifically. I'm just looking for a place for my Mullard at this point, apparently V1 ain't it. Thanks, Mike
