Frank Zappa's lead tone on Watermelons in Easter Hay has always been my favorite. I think he uses his out of phase switch in that song.
gag halfrunt said:So I was wondering the other day about truly inspirational rhythm tone. Great guitarists have a wide variety of tones in their catalog, so I'm thinking about specific songs that exemplify the ultimate in great guitar tone. Also, I'm trying to separate your favorite guitar player from you favorite tones. I know they often overlap. But also, they might confuse the issue. For example, I'm a big Satriani fan, but his tone has never blown me away.
I've had many favorites over the years. The ones that have endured have created those perfect tones in my head - the ones I've been chasing all my life. Thankfully, modded MTS modules have brought these tones to me. Here's my very short list, off the top of my head:
ZZ Top - Tush
Van Halen - Mean Street
Alice in Chains - Them Bones
What song or songs encapsulate the perfect tone for you?
