Hey Mike,
its OK that you call me crazy..you seem to rub elbows with some major dudes...good at ya..
but I do get quite a good sound, and maybe..possibly a better take on that "brand" of music using my Plexi. And as for authenticity:
I suppose if ya wanna get really anal go buy a Lee Jackson Pre-amp..buy some Spandex and there ya go...and dont foget the 4x12 Marshall cab!!!
but I am not sold that it is nescesary to go that far to get the job done. Maybe I wind up15% off...but for 125 I'm really satisfied..and
I'm not in this for my health!!!!
lol...

all are welcome....heck, even Mike P!

My number one suggestion for the sound I think you are looking for is the stock GTO The Judge module. It's what I used for this and I'm an old re-tread from the Sunset Strip hard rock scene in the 80's. This module nails it IMO. I was very happy with the sound of this module on the clip I recorded below:

While I appreciate aspects of the Judge, to me it still is missing more top end. It just needs one little tiny alteration and then yeah i would say you are spot on. I'm making it my life mission to figure out what that change is lol

Soldano's are too spongy feeling and sounding, IMHO. And the Strato channel option will give you killer cleans.

Don't forget that Lynch and Demartini frequently ditch their Marshas or Diezels to go back to a Soldano in the rack! I'd say really anything with mids can be dialed in right. Mike P you are very aware of studio magic, I'll bet you can make any of the modules sound good when recorded and close enough to "that tone".

Maybe it's my cabinet or yours that are making it sound different to us. Mine has plenty of highs. In the more Plexi mode it's pretty bright, just like my old Super Leads, when you flip to the modded Plexi mode it gets darker. I run the EQ's on my module towards the middle with all of them between 11 and 1 o'clock.

Do you think it is the fact that you are running it with the RM22 and EL84's that give it the bite? I always play with the mode off and bright on.

Mode off and bright on will take your head off on my set up. It is very possible it's because of the El84's. But the EL84's don't sound thin when I run it right next to the Lynch Box with the same module in it. Yeah, the 100w sounds bigger, but the RM22 doesn't sound small if that makes sense. I feel like the EQ with the RM22 is right on.

Same here...in both my RM20 and RM100.

and likely the reason why there was a poster on here who complained of his SLO module lacking low end on his RM22... those EL84 def. Crunch up and add top end. I'm not saying it is completely void of cut, just saying I can't use the mode switch at all and the bright always has to be on for me.

Get rid of it or mod it :D Mine isnt going anywhere.

Ive owned several Marshalls..
and they all ripped your ears off with high end, if you dialed them in right...Its something I like, actually
if carefully used, its awesome.

I think el34 are part of that tone, and 84 are cool...but (while REAL sounding) not as "big." And also V30s..love em or hate em , they are part of that recipe. And make sure there are 4 of em..and a way to heavy transformer!!!
All that and a can of Aqua-net and you are THERE.

...don't ask me how I know.
