The III setting seems like a bit more gain or maybe a "tighter" gain (Don't know how to explain it..). And it's the most open and clear sounding of the three. I really like it.

As excited as I was when I got my 59RR, I dare to say this one is now my current favorite (at least for now..). Still love the RR and it is all Marshall and does it in spades. But I've always been partial to my Peaveys and this has everything I always loved about the 5150 combo I have access to...

Favorite - I go back and forth between the JF '59RR (everything RR and raw Marshall I've ever wanted) and stock 1086 (Hard to describe but the "smoothest/cleanest" high gain). Best so far for me is the '59RR. Versatile, everything from cleanish to brutal (EQ like Hamner said).

Are you tightening the thumbscrews? Some modules more than others are susceptible to noise when screws are not grounding through the chassis.

A grill.. on the back?? Never heard of that one.. Is it a head or combo? The bar across the back is supposed to be somewhat of a heat sink. But never saw one with a grill.

UPDATE - It's fixed-ish.. Turns out the leads were attached at the speakers wrong. Luckily (kinda) the speakers are not the originals. Wired correctly, all the impedences on the plate are doubled. This cab originally had 8 ohm V30's and now has 16 ohm V30's. I say luckily because only running...
