I bought a new MidiVerb4 back in 1998 and basically have never used it. I was thinking of giving it a try with an RM100. Is this a good idea or should I scrap it and find a better effects unit?

As you can tell, I'm not the biggest effects fan, but I'd like a little delay and reverb, maybe some chorus at times.

Thanks!

I still use my old Quadraverb every now and then, which is even older then your unit. Put it in the parallel loop and set it to 100% wet, mix in with the front panel knob to taste .......will probably sound just fine.

Perhaps it won't be as transparent as current units, but you don't hear many complaining about the color those MidiVerbs gave on albums of that time ;)

The Quadraverb was actually a MUCH better sounding unit than the Midiverb 4. The best bang for the buck on a better sounding unit would be the TC Electronic G Major 2. http://www.tcelectronic.com/g-major2.asp

Here's a Mark I version on Ebay for $175. Great unit!

Ok, sounds like I bought a piece of crap. Why would the older Quadraverb sound better? Should newer = better?

I've never used this thing, so there's no way I'd be interested in an almost $500 unit like the TC Electronic G Major 2.

I've added the Mark 1 to my watch list. Is that a good price?

How would it compare to my unused Midiverb 4, and what could I sell my Midiverb for?

Thanks.

It's not a piece of crap, but it doesn't sound very good for guitar systems. Totally fine for reverb and delay in a P.A. system. You'll find that "newer" is NOT always better in lots of technology.
Just like high quality guitars and amps, you get what you pay for with high quality FX. That was a great price for a Mark I unit which sounds fabulous!
You'll have to check Ebay for the going price on your Alesis.

+1 on Jace's comments. Midiverb was designed to work with PAs and still do that function very well...That unit could also do OK to add some subtle FX during mixdown...

If you rely on your FX as a main piece of your tone I would say go to a guitar-based system like the TCs, Line 6, Korg, BOSS, etc...

If you just use it to give a little flavor to your tone, the Midiverb is just fine!

The resale is crap on that one though...But they never cost that much even new so that isn't really surprising...

Just be sure whatever you get will be able to work with the loop (line level) on your RM100.... :D

Seriously man, you don't have a great unit for guitar application. The previous suggestions for the GMajor, which are under $200 all day long on Ebay, are excellent. (I've seen some go for >$150shipped before!!) Here's one for $175/w box and super minty!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/TC-ELECTRONIC-G-MAJOR-Near-Mint-/150930738110?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item23242c4bbe They are really great effects units and a very cost effective alternative to the very expensive TC GForce. However, as of late GMajor2 units can be scored for under $300 and are a MUCH better unit than the markI units. I've had a 2 for about 3 years or so. It sounds great and is relatively easy to use. You can upload presets from the website and some of them are really killer. If you are doing the cover band thing you can find something for just about any situation and save on tedious programming time.
