I beg you guy's, please post clip's of your rig's at it's heaviest setting. I don't know if i'm retarded or something, but I can't get the sick chug when my amp is Loud. I don't know if I got a bad Head, or whatever. it sound's good at level 1, 1 1/2.. but over that it loses it's chug when palm muting. I have a RM100 with Mesa 4x12 cab, with XTC, 1086 module's. I even ran a tube screamer in front of it and I dunno. I'm almost just fed up with it and gonna trade it for a Triple Rec head.

What module(s) you using for your chug? How is module set (eq/gain)? How is amp set (density/presence)?

I have an RM50 combo and I get enough chug to rattle my windows when cranked with my Ultra. Also one thing I noticed with my guitar + rig. I recently tuned down from my normal D to Db but left everything else set the same. When I did that, I lost some 'density' in the edge of my attack. Not sure if density is the right word there, but after the detune the attack lost something.

So I guess knowing what tuning you're in might help too.

bias the tubes right, you should use 6l6 power tubes for starters, crank the master volume on the amp to about 3' 0 clock and adjust the bass on the mod and the density to however much chug you need , my rm100 has more chunk than any amp i've ever had or heard. i wouldn't give up on it yet, theres not to many amps out there with the kind of power and headroom as this one,

I have the 1086, and the XTC. i'm waiting for the KH-3 to come out, and thinking of getting the Grail.

Maximus, what module's do you have, and what are there exact setting's. What are your tube's biased to. Are you running a pedal in front?

The 1086 is as follows. Gain 7 1/2, Bass 7 1/2, Mid 4 1/2, treble is 10, Volume is 5 1/2. Density 11 o' clock, Presence is at 3 o'clock. Gain boost is to the right, Mid voicing is to the left.

Without my tubescreamer I feel like the gain is a 1 on a tweed module. there is no definition. All my guitar's have EMG 81's.

when I use my tubescreamer it bring's it out a little more. The XTC i gave up on.

I was also told that the 1086 isn't the "heavist" sounding module. The ultra is and now the new KH-3.

a good set of 6l6's for overall sound would be some jj's, winged c, or for best bottom end electro harmonix, even some sovtek wxt+ will slam and those are cheap, bias those between 33 and 35 ma and put some jj 12ax7's on the chassis( i use a chinese for the input on the chassis) and you should be good to go. the 1086 doesn't realy have a ton of gain and neither does the xtc. i would get the kh-3 as soon as possible and watch the treble on your mods and you should be chugging soon. i use the ultra the ultra xl and the grail(modded recto). i use a maxon 808 in front of everything even the ultras but i back the gain down on the module and slam it with the tube screamer. i just like the way it sounds that way but the ultras are definetly heavy enough on their own without the boost. both have more gain than you would ever need.

Any good site's to get tubes. I really have no idea about tube's (brand wise) so lemme know the ideal tube you would rec. for 7 string and 6 string versatility.

Try tubestore.com, they have a comprehensive reviews of all the tube types thats a must read if you want to get into tubes. The price is very reasonable, I get all my tubes from them. (no, I'm not getting any $$ from them for this plug)
For the 1086, i have the EH in there right now, they're ok but I think it'll be even better with JJ or Tung Sol in them, I'm going to try a combination of both actually, with the JJ in V1 and a Tung Sol in V2.

I tried every combination of preamp tubes that I have in my 1086 (including JJ, Sovtec, Hot Rods, and Mesa). I ended up putting the EHs back in. Some gave a bit bigger bottom end, but the EHs sounded most agressive to me. I get enough chug that's for sure. Of course there are a sh!tload more tubes out there that I never tried. :wink:

I have 2 Kt 88s and 2 KT66s in my amp. Kt 66s are biased to 32ma and the KT88s at about 50ma and it shredds the paint from the walls.

Just pulled 2 GT 12ax7 out of my 1086 and dropped in some jj ecc83s and wow what a change, more bottom end and clarity all around, i voice the gain to the right and also the mid voicing is to the right with the gain at about 8-9 the bass at like 5-6 and the mid and treble are both at about 8-9 and the thing shredds. youd think the mids would be to high but on the mid voicing to the right with the mids scooped it just sounds like old school death metal stuff to me so with the mids all the way up it has more of the JCM800 sound or TSL.

The Recto has A jjecc83 and an EH and boy that thing couldnt sound closer to mesa if you tried, (other than the real deal).

My Ultra Lead has chinese high gain and an EH in it and the bottom end i can get that thing to produce makes my wife nearly vomit LOL.

Plan on putting a Tung Sol in the chassis V1 and a JJ ecc83 in V2 and a EH in V3.

I do run all my modules through a moded TS-9 and i love what it does to the amps over all tone and grit. I also use a BBE sonic maximizer as well and my amp turned from yeah its cool to holy crap what are you playing through.
If you can get your hands on a BBE 362nr i would say do it, it has a built in density and precence controls (which is cool) and it aslo has hoise reduction which i have found to be one of the coolest fetures on this BBE, really takes the hiss out of the amp, great when your recording or just cuz you hate hisss like most of us and it's friendly with the loop on the RM100s.

Holy **** my love for my amp just took to a new level. I normally play with master at 2-3 at home (when no one is home) then i went to an audition, other guitarist laughed at my rig.....then i plugged it, put the master level to 5, he dicked with my 1086, and our jaw's dropped. I LOVE THIS FUCKIN AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

use the Grail as my main "HEAVY" channel and I have LOADS of chunk for every one and tight at that!!! plus my gain never pass' the 1 o'clock position too!! but TONE is subjective and for me LESS IS WAY MORE!!

I have played/owned all the really Heavy modules.........and hands down the EG5 cant be beat. That thing is just EVIL.... :twisted:
Only problem, is they are hard to find and pricey BUT............WELL WORTH IT!! Contact Egnater and they will make you one for about $400 hundred. Trust me.....sell off a couple weaker modules....get one of them.......and your rig will be a Flame thrower.
AND.......NO OD PEDAL needed.
