Hi all,

I envy most of you guys in US for having such a cool bunch of moders. I was wondering if there is anyone in UK I can get in contact with.

Cheers

Any good tech can do the basic mods but for more complicated mods I suggest you send it to Salvation in CR.

Well that entirely depends on what he wants done.
There's Anthony (Salvation) in the Czech Republic or Pete or Rob (gigmods/jaded faith) in the USA.

.. He just said he want's someone closer to the UK than USA.
So yes Salvation would be the one to go to, way faster and cheaper shipping too from the UK.

Thanks m0jo. Pete and Rob do great jobs but importing stuff from the US can get expensive due to customs fees.

This ^ sucks big time. I'll give you a comparison:

New RM4 in the Netherlands: EUR 800,-

New RM4 in the USA: EUR 500,-
customs on the import: EUR 130,-

So either I pay almost double what you pay, or go through a load of trouble and then pay a quarter extra due to customs.
And then it still is 3/4th of the Dutch price. We're getting completely raped by the importers here, Randall should do something about it!!
For a lot of people here Randall is just not financially viable, THAT is why they can't get a foothold in the european market.

Thanks for replies guys. Much appreciated. Checked Salvation stuff and sounds sick, might consider that.

You are right Mojo. In UK, new Randall stuff are f@uk expensive. and when you go on evilBay, you hardly see any private uk sellers. The only module I bought new was my Blackface which I bought for ?130, thinking it's not that bad. Then after 2 weeks of not hearing anything and contacting the "well respected" shop, I was told that the price has gone up and I gotta cough up more. It was ?190 now! WTF! US price was the same as 2 weeks ago!

Another story, when ?1 was almost $2 I wanted to buy ESP eclipse guitar. In uk it was ?1400 and in US was $1400. Half the price. so I bought it and paid $120 for shipping. then here got held by tax dudes and I paid another ?120 for freakin tax! so far the cost is $1760=?880 still not bad despite the pain I had to go through... wait... but 1 year after buying it, the seller from US called saying my transaction never went through and he just asked Visa to charge me! by now ?1=$1.40 ! Just do the maths and you'll see how I got screwed big time in every possible hole you can imagine! and not in a good way!

Much love Randallheads

That sucks man, I just got a used XTC module for 90 euro's, and had to pay 25 euro's tax on it .. that's freaking almost 1/3rd of the price!!

Did you get the ESP in the end?

I so wanted to get XTC. got one on evilBay for ?85 but was not working! Ain't lucky, am I??! Got KH3 last week but am not sure about it. I hope it grows on me soon

Yeah got the freakin ESP at the end. Got raped big time, but worth it! :D

The importer has to live too... Any which way you roll the dice, getting something in the EU from the US will always be more expensive than getting the thing in the US. European stuff will be more expensive in the States as well.

Also think of the benefits of getting it locally. If something goes kaplooey on your America bought amp, you want to ship it to the US? Thought of the prices for shipping? And the return? And the inevitable Customs guy holding out his hand for the pay-off?

The Customs guys in the UK are ridiculous. I've sent modules to the US for modding and they charge me around ?50 in customs duties everytime I get MY OWN modules back! When I try to contest the charges, they drag their heels for so long that I get fed up and just forget about a refund.

Parcelforce are the usual UK partners for USPS, and they are in cahoots with Customs. They add ?8 to "Customs processing charges" everytime as well. Really, I'm getting a bit sick of these guys.

I got fed up of the hassle and modded my own Recto. Seriously, the best move I've ever made. Came out sounding sick, and has a permanent home in my rig :)

That's a very easy reaction. We have more products that come from the USA here, the general rule that allways applies is "Price in $ = price in Euro". But the Randall stuff takes that price .. and than slaps a quarter on top of it!

Also, the money I save on the buy can easily pay for almost any major kaplooey on the amp, that's how bad it is!
Plus the fact that I can fix most small kaplooeys myself .. for me at least it's a no brainer to import myself.

If the product was made in the USA then I'd understand the hike in price, but the Randall MTS stuff is Asian made IIRC, so the shipping prices to both the USA and the EU should be comparable... maybe a touch higher in the EU, but not a 100% markup.

If the product is currently going Asia -> USA -> EU then Randall need to think about whether they ever intend to sell any amps in the EU.

RM100 from Thomann 1390 Euros = $2021
RM100 from Funk Munky $1279

Randall have priced themselves out of the market in the EU. It's as simple as that.

Fact... Nearly every Randall stockist in the UK no longer stocks MTS. Dolphin, DV247, Andertons, Reverb... 4 of the biggest UK shops who are no longer MTS stickists. GAK stocks the MTS line, but if anyone here has ever been into their actual store, the MTS stuff is hidden in a corner of the "secondhand area" under an inch thick pile of dust.

Bingo, the only store I know of that sells in the region of the Netherlands that I live in only stocks the old version of the RM4 and silverface modules!!

Those are what.. at least 3 years old now? It's ridiculous.

Hey something else: many broken modules can be fixed by the modders  Be sure to ask in advance with a picture of it though.

Hey by the way, Salvation Mods is in the EU. So for me that means zero customs and stuff. I don't know how this is in the UK, but it should at least be a lot less.

If that is your take, fine. I see that the stuff I am interested in have different prices.

Les Paul Studio at Feedback € 999,00

Les Paul Studio at Musician's Friend $ 799.00

200 currency units different.

Just an example. I know that some manufacturer's keep it one on one, but those are usually the people that have divisions here themselves, for example Yamaha. When they have an "importer" things change.

If you can repair the stuff yourself, be my guest and get them from anywhere you want. I don't like handling soldering irons and rummaging around between capacitors and such, so I leave that work to others.

paul525715: I have no idea where stuff comes from. Simple logic says about 99 % of the gear you buy comes from cheap labor countries in the Far East, and is (hopefully) assembled in the EU or US. If the assembly is done in the US other simple logic says that Randall pays import duties on the parts, assembles it for a fee, ships it to Europe where import duties are once again being extorted, and you will pay the final cost. If Randall on the other hand assembles in China, and ships it from there straight to the EU.... Then I wonder where the price hike comes from.

But... I am not their accountant, so no idea.

All of that, and you didn't actually look at the right price.

Les Paul Studio at Musician's Friend in Wine Red / Gold $ 1319,-
(click on the Select colour option thingey)

Also these are totally different type of shops. Compare apples with apples please. Thomann.de would be a good choice.
Les Paul Studio at Thomann.de in Wine Red / Gold ? 1085,-

Also repairs are a exception I hope, it's not something I plan on having to do with this type of gear. Although I do take it up in the calculation.

PS.
The Gibson:
?1085 = $1580 vs. $1319
So that is $300 difference. That's 22% extra

Randall RM100:
?1390 = $2021 vs. $1219
That's $800 difference. 65% extra!
