I was thinking about trying KT-88's in my Randall RM100 but wasn't sure if I can safely run them in the amp. The owner's manual doesn't list the bias setting for KT-88's. Doe anybody have any experiences?

Oh yes, I have kt88's, Rob says its cool. Love mixing kt88/e34l's.
Totally safe, have fun!

Hi guys,

I was wondering abou this too. In fact I was under the impression that the RM100 can handle any EL34 base style valve but was concerned the output transformer might not be happy handling over 200w of output?

Just plugging in the tubes will not increase the output to 200w. You would have to increase the voltage and current of the main power transformer first.

These KT88 tubes, if allowed to run hot (bias adjusted) could try to pull too much current through the existing PT, but I think these trannies are overrated. Ever pick up an RM100 and wonder why the hell is it so heavy?

A whole box and no KT88's! I like the 6L6/EL34 combo a lot though, lots of aggression with a rounder(but not flabby) bottom end. This and a JF mark X mod and I've got Mesa covered!
