Has anybody thought about a module for one of the Dr. Z amps? I know his designs don't necessarily follow Fender/Marshall/Vox/Boogie circuits, and some of them use EF86 preamp and/or EL84 power tubes, so they might not fit the basic Randall philosophy. Just curious...
Well, we DO have the RM20 and items like the THD Yellowjacket and the Ruby Tone Plug to help us out there. And I'm sure the modules could be modded to incorporate EF86's, couldn't they?

Are you sure?
Anyone tried it?

Anthony

I've played with them a bit, but nothing releasable or worth discussing yet.

I'm still wishing I could get the sound of my Bogner Shiva into a module. Looking at mods to get me there right now, but the Shiva has some dreamy tones :D

i think it's in Randall best interest to just release a blank modual and let the modders make it into what ever they want .. that's what seems to happens anyway

Randall can't go as far as the modders for commercial and copyright reasons don't forget..in fact the modders have to be careful too.

I'd rather see Randall take on a licensed design from them.....or maybe a licesed mod...maybe work it up into a Signature model?

Without a name draw, kind of hard to sell a specialist model, well, except to hardcore MTS heads like us :D

They would make a ton of money from me. Like 100 a blank module instead of people only buying used ones (which costs Randall a bit if people wont buy the new stuff).

The blank module idea is great.. but I don't think Randall is that willing to shoot themselves in the foot ;)

To get slightly back on topic: I'd like to see a module like the ENGL Steve Morse.. including the switchable mid arrangement (need very small pots and knobs to fit that on :) ). Only problem is that there's no way to switch that stuff ... unless you mod the head/preamp.

It may be a nice idea for egnater, 2 eq's in stead of 2x gain/volume.

..I'll see you ....and raise you, GuitarComet
I want a MaxiMouse Module!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe a Kustom Module!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'll raise you!
I want a Bugera module! :D

Wait .. what?

But seriously, a Line 6 Spider mod?

^ a Spider module? ehh can't see that going well. Mind as well get a bunch of bees and let them out on the crowd.

Framus Dragon lead channel. The leads are so smooth, i love em.

Yeah .. it was a joke, a bad one I'll grant you that ;)

Hmm yeah a smooth lead module would be nice. I think we're covered on the rythm part. :D

My 3 favorite amps have already been done.

AC30
Hot rodded JCM800
Diezel VH4

the only module out there that isn't already done is the mega channel from the Diezel Herbert !!! that channel kills ... i know some say the mega channels are the same in all diezels , but they are not ... the herbie sags a bit more and has some nice saturation happening !!! that the other mega channels do not have ..imo...

other than that ... i have the grail and it keeps me out of the market for any other mod ..

I think it would also be interesting to see some modules using octal tubes (6sl7, 6sn7) that were often used in amps up through the early 60's and are now used in some boutique amps.

It would also be interesting to see modules based on late 60's Matamp designs, Supro (as used by Jimmy Page on some of the early Zeppelin material), Ampeg, HiWatt.

While it would be cool if Randall made modules to the specs that the Modders do, it would be somewhat difficult as many things affect tone... Guitar, wood used in the guitar, pickups, Preamp circuit (& the tubes used, poweramp circuit & the tubes used, speaker cabinet & the speakers used in that cabinet. Not to mention most of the tones we have to go by are mixed & likely multiple amps on recording.
I am not an amp snob & don't mean to imply others here are, but I can honestly tell you I have never heard an old 60s or 70s vintage Marshall in person and a strait signal Guitar to Amp to Cabinet. So for me the Plexi probably nails the tone I think of/hear for that particular amp/era. I have heard a JCM 800 stock, modded, & with a overdrive/boost pedal in front. I like the modded & boost pedal tones over the stock 800. SL+ comes really close if not dead on. Now if a module just doesn't quite do it, then have it modded to what you want/need. If you feel the SL+ is lacking some bass then have it modded to your liking.

Holy crap that seems like a rant. At any rate Randall has made my dream amps (modules)
Mr Scary (I love GL's tone on that instrumental)
SL+ - JCM800
Plexi - 70's Marshall tone
Tweed - '59 Bassman for clean

Eventually what I will enjoy with the MTS is being able to A/B various modules to see the differences. This is something that would be very difficult in both space & money. Obviously I need to get more modules to fix my Gear ***** Complex.

Intriguing. They used to make the Johnson modeling amps that had 12ax7's in them. I used to have one and it beat any line6 stuff into the ground. If they can make that magic again i'd really be tempted to try it out.

Peace, Joshua
