Guys,
I'm looking at trying out RECABINET speaker cab emulation software for some recording. To do that I'll need a dummy load box like a THD Hot Plate. I've never used one of these before, what can you tell me?
Thanks,
Jace

Those dummy loads always freak me out, make me worried...if you can swing an rm4, that would solve the di problem for mts...probably not too much more in price compared to a hot plate

have you tried a lineout from your amp's FX send to your pc? Keep your speaker cabinet hooked up to the amp to provide a load. You can turn your master volume right down for silent recording and control the input level to the recording software with the volume knob on the module.

It didn't even occur to me that would be possible.
I'll give that a try!

That worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip!
I only had 5 minutes to listen with headphones, but that RECABINET software sounds great! Are there any other software applications I should be looking at for speaker simulation?
Thanks again VitaminG!

Redwirez.com. Buy a bundle or buy individual cabinets. The more you buy, the less expensive they are. Just be sure to register with them so the correct pricing for individual cabinets are shown.

The bundles include their convolution plugin mixIR, and I think it will catalog all of your IRs, no matter what "brand" they are. It's also sold separately.

Redwirez offers a demo cab to try, but I need to have an RTAS IR loading plug-in to try it. Are there any free plugs that will let me load these?

there are but I'm at work & can't recall offhand. Search the forum for 'impulses'. There have been a few good discussions about the topic & I recall a thread with links to a bunch of free recording & emulation stuff.

Don't get THD Hotplate just for interfacing the powersection. It's completely not what it's meant for (but does provide line out).

You can get a far cheaper solution custom made from most any guitar tech shop.

I got mine for less that a $100 and works great.
