I need a great excuse to sell my 101a on Feebay.

I'm really leaning towards a Jaded Faith, as Rob is happy to smooth it out a bit (I'm used to the smoother Bogner head). Any other mods that you guys suggest?

Hilly XTC's are all Ive owned and tried so that will make me biased. The Snorkeler is definitely a killer mod. Other pro-modders XTC's have more bells and switches so I would say they are more versatile. Since you have an actual 101 I am sure you know exactly what an XTC should sound like. Are you going for an original sound or more options?

I'm going for that organic, thick low mids, great pick articulation sound. That's really what separates a 101 from many other amps in my opinion. The Hilly XTC is awesome, but it sounds a little too much like a hotrodded Marshall for my tastes.

I find this thread relevant to my interests as I have my first XTC on its way and it will be stock :)

The Snorkeler is much thicker than the Hilly XTC you have which is warmer with less gain. Depending on how much gain you use the Snorkeler has good articulation but maybe not enough of what you are looking for. I would suggest a stock XTC.

Sacred Groove XTX LE is awesome - did a side by side with my buddy's Ecstacy and needless to say he was in awe of the tones from the SG mod
and made him look at my setup and modded module route :)

I haven't played any other modded versions, but after comparing with real thing I'm content with Scott's version but I do want to try Tony's version as well sometime on the future.

Ive owned and heard quite a few of them...The Stocker is actually not bad comparatively..Snorkeler is cool, but the Salvation is just thicker and smoother...has more gain on tap as well....more tonal variety than the snorkeler as well, but more expensive as well....

I haven't played the Salvation XTC, but the JF XTC is very nice. Great clean channel too! It will do slight overdrive to 90's metal really well. Very articulate. This is one of my favorites.
I was a big fan of the stock XTC too. The Hilly XTC mod kept the stock flavor but made everything clearer. I was really happy with that one. Apparently the Snorkeler is a little different, but I haven't heard that one.

Wesarvin has your old hilly xtc Jace. Snorkeler has more top end bite and gain. Not as smooth and warm as the other.

Agree with Disciple here...Scott's is badass for sure. Also very versatile.

I have a black-stripe XTC which I am really happy with. The only mod is a change in capacitor C1 from .0022? to .0015? which is supposed to give it a slightly tighter bass response.

Many subscribers to this site have a high regard for the stock XTC. I would try the stock XTC first and then decide whther or not to have it modded.

I have a stock XTC and I am not sure whether I will ever have it modded. I really like it as is. It can do some nasty gainy tones but also nice bluesy sustain. I imagine that with some modification it can do more, but I have other units for that.

I felt the same way about my stock XTC. I actually kept the stock unit and had another one modified so I could hear the difference. The Hilly XTC mode was inexpensive, fast and really improved the overall sound of the module without losing its character.

Salvation mod just came in today. Older model with Shiva switch. All I can say is holy crap. It nails my Ecstasy flavor. 3d, yet compressed and cutting. All of the attack and definition is still there. It makes my rm50 combo sound like me bogner half stack. Simply amazing!

I have an Sacred Grooves Ecstasy LE arriving later this week and I'll try to get up some clips next week for you to check out.

I dunno if you saw that most recent post, but I ordered a Salvation from someone here on the boards and it came in today. I just did a side by side and it NAILED the Bogner. I'll try to post a clip of the real XTC, the Salvation, and the Hilly all side by side. For the Salvation, even the knob settings get really close. It doesn't have the range of tones of the real XTC, but it nails the tones that I use most often, plus it's got that Shiver mode...

I even did the wife test, and had her compare. She said "what am I supposed to hear? They sound the same." I told her that's the point! $700 vs. $3K. Which do you prefer?

It will be neat to compare all of these side by side.

Excellent! We've been working on this module for like six months. Mine was the first and strangely, it'll be the last for a while.
