hello, i have a rm100 on order, they say about 2 weeks & i'm hopeing someone can help me with hooking up my efx. i have all boss peddels,delay,chorus,eq,compression/sustain,tuner, & zakk wylde wah. with other amps i had them like this, delay, chorus,eq, & com/sist run through the efx loop & the tuner & wah run through front with guitar. so i was wondering should i run it like this or would it be better through the series loop. i read somewhere in here using series loop caused loss of tone. i'm looking for any & all suggestions. i know i don't like running all through front. look forward to hearing what everyone thanks. thanks rod.[/b]

Well, try it any way you think sounds right. If that was my situation I would go Guitar>Tuner>Compressor>EQ>WaWa>AMP. Then try the chorus and delay through the loop. But my understanding is the effects loop is really designed to use line level, rack style effects, although many here on the forum seem to use pedal style effects through the effects loop with no problems. Wing it and try different ways to see what works. To me the experimentation is a little more than half the fun. I spend entire Saturdays trying different effects placements and different tubes and anything I can think of. Looking for the "happy accident" is where it's at for me.

thanks for help,so what is series loop for.

Line level compressor, equalizer etc. Any line level effect that can not remove the "direct" signal from its output.

thanks for help, but im kind of new to all this. does that mean i should or should not use series loop for boss pedals. rod

Stomp boxes aren't really made for line level use, but that doesn't mean that you can't put them in the loop if you want. You might just like it, and you won't hurt your boxes. Normal use is in front of the amp though.

Ironically enough - I actually called Randall Tech Support before I even saw this blog. I recently bought a Lynch Box and was confused as far as the Series and Parallel Effects Loops and which one to run my Boss DD-3 Delay through (My only other pedals are a Boss TU-2 Tuner and Cry Baby 95Q Wah - which I have always run into the front on my amps anyways). To back up what is stated above, I was told that both of those effect loops are designed more for rack mounted effects and I would be better off just running the delay into the front of the amp and he also added the majority of major artists (not all) using these amps that use pedals run them into the front as well. He did say to feel free to experiment, but in the end I would most likely would be better off just running pedals into the front.

For what its worth I run my Boss Harmonist, Fulltone Wah, Fulltone OCD, and Retro-Sonic Phaser through the front of the amp while I run a Fulltone Choralflange (Chorus & Flange), Guyatone Delay, T-Rex Reverb, and Hush pedal through the series loop.

With my RM50B combo.....

I run an EB Volume, modded Crybaby wah, and modded TS-9 out front.

I have the factory reverb running through the parallel loop.

And in the serial loop I'm running a modded vintage Phase 90, VL Tremolo, Dano EQ, & Boss DD-20.

Seems to be working fine.

thanks for eveyones help, so do ya'll thank rack efx are better than pedal efx as far as sound.

Depends which effects you're talking about. There is a wide range of quality in pedals. For example, I first tried the Electroharmonix Holy Grail reverb pedal with my RM100. While it sounded O.K. reverbwise it dropped volume when engaged and was a bit noisy. I now run the T-Rex Room Mate reverb pedal which sounds much better, is quieter, doesn't suck the tone out of my amp, and its true bypass. Its also a lot more expensive than the Holy Grail pedal. A rack reverb I'm sure would do well too. It all depends on what you're looking at. All pedals are not the same.
