So who else has one of these anyway? I picked one up from Rising Farce for a ridiculously low price recently, and it's an outstanding module. I haven't heard about too many of them being out there. It's based on the blue and red channels from the 5150III, though I couldn't tell you how accurate it is. What I can say for sure is that the red channel on this sucker has a LOT of gain. A WHOLE lot. Like, as in, 10:00 on the dial is what I would consider to be over the top. It's at least on par, gain-wise, with the EV Trilogy I had until recently. It also punches like crazy, especially with the depth switch in the down position. This module is like a ton of bricks. The blue channel is also pretty fantastic, and sounds not too far off from my MK22 in 2204 mode. Last but not least, it looks very sharp indeed with its white mini-chickenhead knobs and its color-changing LED. This is a great companion to my SG XTC LE.

I havent even heard of this module.who made it?
GtrGeorge
got some pictures?????????????

There were only two Criminal modules made, so far. You have the original.

Thanks for acknowledging the Criminal. I had a lot of requests for the 5153 specifically, rather than a generalized 5150 type mod. I'm really happy with how it turned out! I'm glad you're digging it!

The other mod is the same as yours, but I consider the Blue channel more of a mid-gain channel, rather than a repro of the original Blue channel. The Blue channel is a bit tough to make switchable from the Red channel and have both true, and accurate to the original.

Thanks again!

:D

Here's a picture:

And here's a few clips. First, this is the blue channel with the gain at about 10:30:

Here's the blue channel with the gain up around 2:00:

Here's the red channel with the gain at 10:00:

And finally, even though I would never actually turn the gain up this high, here is what it sounds like with the gain at noon. I also put the depth switch in its lowest position in this clip (in all the other ones it's in the upper position, which I think is the normal setting) for the most overall impact:

Glad to hear it went to a good home.

The clips sound great, especially the higher-gain Blue-channel one. (Incidentally, that was my favorite configuration with that module.) I just might have to order another!

agreed the blue is rocking on these clips :!:

SG does great work; I just received a Diablo with some cool features, this mod totally fits my vibe....details to follow....

Wow - only two out there now - I really feel lucky - as it looks like I have the only other one out in the wild. Only had it a few weeks - and after spending much more time with it, its starting to move more and more into a module that can do it all. Its thick and has more than enough gain for anything. It works well with both down tuned stuff, and its getting close to making it into my main rig for rock/hard rock stuff. Keep the gain low and its a nice thick crunch and hit it with a boost for smooth yet biting lead tones - just a killer module. Can't say enough good things about Scott or his mods - if your looking for a module that covers the state between a marshall type tone and a modern metal type tone - this thing is it in spades. Again can't say enough good things about this mod.

You guys are getting me all excited about my incoming SG MK22 and Bully!

Thanks guys! After having had a fair amount of experience of different mods, I've found that Scott's generally tend to be the most "me". Four out of the six modded mods I own are SacredGroove ones.

Same here. Scott's work just has a little something extra, which I like. Too bad there aren't more soundclips of his mods (ie Numbskull). I was looking at this Criminal when it was for sale, but thought it might cross paths with the Afterlife. I think the description of it bridging the gap between Marshall and Modern is pretty accurate, where as the Afterlife is straight up Modern.

I am really fond of my SG mods too. Is the Afterlife his Uber mod? What module was the mod built on?

Got any pics? Can you compare and contrast it to the XTC LE?

Earlier today I was recording a scratch track that featured my Diablo mod heavily, and man, that is another completely killer module. I go back and forth between whether I prefer the orange or the red channel modes on it.

See pic below. The Egyptian god's eyes (clear knobs) light up with green LEDs. It's a super cool effect. As for the tone, the Afterlife is much thicker and tighter. The red channel on the XTC LE has a slight sag and more compression, where as the Afterlife is tight and modern sounding. The depth switch makes a much more noticeable difference on the Afterlife. Middle is tight (thrash), down has more sag (Pantera), and up seems more vintagey. The XTC LE and Afterlife do compliment each other well though. I have a recording with the XTC LE on the first half of the song and the Afterlife on the second. The XTC LE seems crunchier as the Afterlife seems more refined aggression. I think if you doubled a guitar part with them, they'd fill in for each other and make a killer tone. I just might have to try it. :)

Just out of curiosity, can you tell me how/where the Fisch compares or fits in with the XTC and AfterLife? Btw, that graphic looks stunning!
