Guys,
I want to try out some speaker simulation software for RTAS. The demo download of RECABINET actually sounds quite good. Many people seem to be using IRs. Do any of you know of a free RTAS plug-in that will allow me to try IRs? I'm using Pro Tools 9 by the way.
Thanks,
Jace

mixIR by Redwirez is free if you buy his Impulse bundle.

There is other free ones too.

For the best results check out Nebula PRO (not free) and the latest technology from http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_16&products_id=68

This one sounds VERY good indeed...

Very tidy nebula format with ultra-high quality (96khz)...

Also very good (and cheap) $25. AcmeBargig http://www.acmebargig.com/product/iface/
This also has Free trial.

Come with stellar presets (using Redwirez Implulses) to setup up stereo mixes and likely will be set-and-forget type mixing. It sounds really good!!

I would recommend the latest Nebula programs from Ownhammer for the best result if your serious about getting a good sound though... I also run my Powersection through a attenuator which gives a fatter sound, though not everyone prefers that route. Actually I recently found that I like to run the
powersection->>atten->>DI->>interface to get the best result (so far).

IF you have **** converter I find it will muddy up the signal too much so keep that in mind.

Been meaning to check out Nebula myself.

Guitarampmodeling.com has a wealth of info, including a forum specifically for speaker impulses.

The Two Notes Torpedo allows real-time mic positioning, multiple mics/cabs, and power amp modeling with various tube types, plus 5 band eq, speaker drive, HPF, exciter, compressor etc.

Hardware and software, RTAS among others, relatively economical entry level solutions, and a free demo plugin with a 4 X 12/V30's and SM57 (VST only, so use a RTAS Wrapper if you have one).

Just checked that out. Do you use it? It looks great!

Hi Scott, yeah, I love it, especially the power amp models (takes the weight and level issues out of my rig by losing the big iron and attendant chassis weight).

The Presence Control works a bit funny in my experience, though start with it at 100% and tweak from there (not sure what they modeled, but it's different from any vintage style .1 NFB circuit I've ever used?).

I used to use an Axe FX Ultra for "power amp" modeling but the Torpedo kicks it's a** IMO as the Axe won't let you officially separate it's preamp and power amp sims and just use the power amp sim by itself due to reverse engineering fears.

Also, the full versions of the Torpedo allow use of third party IR's as well (without the real-time positioning feature of course).

Good to see you back...

Thanks...I never really went away...LOL

The Torpedo Live looks really cool, and it's not terribly priced either, compared to another unit I'd seen a few years ago that was basically 2U rack that allowed you to use VSTs (maybe others too) with your amp. The Torpedo has got some swiss army knife action going for it, as a loadbox and the ability to use your own IRs. That's just awesome.

I forgot to mention that Two Notes offers a 15 day trial offer on the full version of the plugins via a temp iLock2 license, so if you have a iLock2 and a iLock account, and you are running Windoz or OSX on a Intel Mac (iLock2 doesn't support PPC), you can try the full plugin versions for 15 days (full versions include RTAS support).
