Ok, Ive had my RM4 long enough now to start tweaking with my tube collection, what is the tube layout on the back? i.e. loop 1, 2 and V1?

Use the search function!
It's been mentioned several times.

As seen from behind:

V2 V3

V1

V1: V1 / input tube
V2: Post loop / output buffer tube
V3: Pre loop / loop buffer tube

No problem ;)

I've noticed that changing the V2 output tube doesn't do much if anything at all in terms of tonality.
It's mostly in the V1 (quite logical but still). :)

And as for the V3 loop buffer I'd just put something with the lowest noise in there, JJ or EHX or something.
Since that's just there to give your signal strength, no colouration.

thanks for the info. I got home last night, tried a variety of tubes in V1 and ended up with a Tung-Sol in there. I thought my Ei 12at7 in there would be pretty nice but it took some of the deep bass out of everything. I just didn't like what the E-H, Sovtek and Reissue Mullards were doing to the sound.
the only other two i liked were an old Mesa Boogie labeled 12ax7a and the stock JJ. But the Tung-Sol was just right in the V1.
