My theory would be tubes. A complete retube would be a good idea if you want to get the most out of your amp anyways, as I'm doing the same with my amp. It probably wouldn't hurt to try different guitars through it as well, just in case it could be a problem with the guitar wiring. If you're...

I've been able to get some moderately clean tones with it, but really no Fender type cleans. More like a Plexi/gritty clean. It's probably the most flexible module in stock form. If I remember correctly, when I was trying to get some clean sounds from it I turned down the bass and gain, boosted...

He could be swamped building mods right now. I sent him a PM last month and haven't heard back so he's probably swamped.

Do you have any other modules? If so, you could borrow the tubes just to check and see if that's what the case is. EDIT: I meant change the preamp tubes in the 1086, NOT the RM4. If your other modules are working fine, then it's most likely the case.

I had a somewhat similar problem when my 1086 arrived. First thing whenever you have problems with modules, check the preamp tubes. That's exactly what was wrong with mine. Replaced them, and it was good as new.

I noticed that the older one does have a shinier finish. It sounds wonderful, I'm just concerned about the fan not working. Maybe the new ones are just louder. I'll have to pop it open when I get home :)

I just recieved a block letter RM4 I bought from a member on here. Works great, but I'm not hearing the fan come on. Is this the older version that I have? Did the older ones not come with fans? I heard the older ones had a slight "lag" in switching channels, but I haven't noticed that at all...

I'm surprised alot of people aren't fond of the stock XTC. I love it quite a bit, and did some recording with it this week. I've been able to get some great grind out of it. The stock Rectified module didn't really impress me at first, but now that I've cranked it up a bit I'm kinda digging...

That's AWESOME 8) I kinda like the orange font actually. It would also be pretty badass to have a "Buzzsaw" type face plate like his black and orange LP. I always kinda dug that design :)
