my current live Margot & the Nuclear So and So's rig:
Randall Amplifiers rm50, (egnater) with stock SL+ and PLEXI modules
kustom 2x10
65 mustang,
82 stratocaster
MXR , True Effects Pedals(i am endorsed by them, and they are awesome..they built me a ross compressor/klon/boost 3 in 1 pedal)
Boss Effects Pedals , ross, guyatone,Proco Rat ,ibanez phaser , Electro-Harmonix , etc...

so.....getting to my question.

i did my first run of shows with my new amp (i am a long time super reverb player) i noticed it was pretty hissy when not playing. really couldnt notice once we all got playing, but i was wondering if this may be a bias adjustment? or should i seek out different, quieter modules? most of my overdrive/distortion comes from my pedals.and i am not relying on the amp for drive but just for the awesome sturdiness, roadworthy build and great tone...but the hiissss kinda bugged me...

the only time I have that problem is when running the gain very high. I doubt you are doing this as you said your getting that from pedals. I would check bias and tubes first then cables ect... The stock plexi is a great module for a pedal platform and really should not produce excessive noise. You really should get some modded though. They are quieter and sound so much better than stock.

thanks for the reply,
yea i had the gain pretty low probly around 3 or 4. ill check the bias and tubes, pretty sure they are the original tubes that were in the amp..

I'm just curious as to what made you go from a Super Reverb to an RM50?
Also, as you're new to MTS, where did you hear about them?

my super has some issues, it needs a serious overhaul, also,it is way too heavy and just not tour friendly... i was givin this MTS as a gift from one of my studio partners,he had 2 of em. so he kept the 100 and gave me the 50.
using an external cab really brought it to life.

The combo's sound very good for a combo. Large size brings plenty of bass and mids. I just put a Wgs et65 back in mine for a change and really like it. I had been using a 2x12 cab and that is such a wider sound, but sometimes the combo by itself can be the better option depending on the venue. The great thing about the mts system is it is so easy to get a great sound without to much volume if needed. With each module having there own gain and volume. Now send a few modules to Rob for a tune up. You won't regret it.

Cool. I think you should get A Jaded Faith Vybe Deluxe and Texas Special. This will give you two different Fender clean flavors that both take pedals well. The Texas Special will also get you some dirty tones. Or if you're in to Vox and Matchless tones too, get the Voxless instead of the Texas Special. Best of luck.

Welcome to the family sir!

The hiss is a result of running your pedals into a mid and high gain module as opposed to the clean amp that was your Fender. Regardless of how low you run the gain, it's going to have a little more background noise than your Fender did because of additional gain stages in the signal and the EQ being in a different spot in the signal chain (pre-gain in your Fender, post in the Plexi and SL+ modules). Nothing to worry about and it's all to be expected. No refection on either amp, just a different signal flow.

If you are in need of any guidance feel free to email me about anything.

All the best,
Rob
